I dont use this word much but im Assumeing that YOUR mechanic scanned the computer and checked the coolant sensor or other possible causes,Ive ran across this many times before so bare with me,Have your mechanic try a known good Airflow meter and dont forget to check the main airboot for rips, cracks or tears in the seams, gotta inspect all the areas where it is accordianed for flexibility, another one is moisture penetrating into the distributor cap,got more if ya need them hope this helped let me know have a good day Darrell

scan the computer with a computer scanner just to see what it says. check your intake, I am thinking your mass air flow sensor is no good. it happened to my car where the rpm increases and decreases when the car is idle. Or it can be the IAC valve.

Hello,
When the MAF on most vehicles reach a point of preventing the engine from starting, you can usually just unplug it and the engine will start. If that doesn't work-
You may want to try having the O2 sensor, ( Oxygen sensor ), checked. It works with other components of the emission system and can cause similar symptoms as the MAF, including preventing the engine from starting.

Idle very low then turns off

this is the cause.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

2006 pontiac Grand Prix stalls in wet weather

A cause for that would be an oxygen sensor getting wet, the one on the inlet side of the catalytic converter.

Car stalls while driving at high speeds

i would start by checking the spark plugs and leads. if that ok i would think there is a problem with the dispack that the spark plug leads fit to, if its cracked or any rust i would replace.
