SOURCE: steps to change oil in 2006 ford escape hybrid.
The oil filter is usually found on the side of engine. Here's a really good how-to guide article on how to change your oil and everything else related to it:

SOURCE: oil & filter change
If there is a Auto Zone around your area, you can get the oil and filter there with the step by step instructions needed to get the job gone. There is a oil filter wrench for you to buy to remove the old oil filter, buy the oil filter cup that attaches to the ratchet, the other wrenches tend to crush the filters. Keep me posted be glad to answer any questions and give you instructions to the oil change procedure if Auto ZOne could not help you or there is not one around you.
SOURCE: Change Oil light came on my 2006 Ford Escape
The change oil light is controlled by the main engine computer which monitors driving conditions and clock hours. Based on this data it suggest an oil change interval. The system, however has no way to know the oil was changed unless you tell it so. In your owners manual there is a procedure to "reset" this process in the engines computer. its normally done by holding a button and turning the ignition key on at the same time. It should be listed under oil change in the owners manual.
