The oil filter is usually found on the side of engine. Here's a really good how-to guide article on how to change your oil and everything else related to it:

This should help!

Good luck,

I need to know where the oil filter is??

Looking under the car the oil filter is located just behind the front bumper, a little off to the passenger side. Should be one of the first things you see once you get past the bumper.
The link below has a very detailed step-by-step video of the entire oil change process, including locations of the oil drain plug and oil filter. Hope that helps.

Changing oil filter

There may a plastic cover under the engine with four 10mm bolts, take off 3 and swing it. If you don't see a cover, follow the dipstick tube down to the bottom of the engine, the filter is right next to it, in the front of the engine next to the oil pan. It is the regular screw on type, just a little fella.

Oil & filter change

If there is a Auto Zone around your area, you can get the oil and filter there with the step by step  instructions needed to get the job gone. There is a oil filter wrench for you to buy to remove the old oil filter, buy the oil filter cup that attaches to the ratchet, the other wrenches tend to crush the filters. Keep me posted be glad to answer any questions and give you instructions to the oil change procedure if Auto ZOne could not help you or there is not one around you.

Transmisssion filter

I have a 2002 escape so I'm not sure how much different it is for you.

There is a pan on the driver's side of the engine up towards the front by the radiator. It is sitting vertically facing the front of the car. I went through the painstaking process of pulling mine off to find the transmission filter, only to find it didn't have a filter. Everyone told me it had a filter, even the dealer. All lies =) Don't waste 3 hours of your time pulling that thing off and then trying to get it back on.
