most likely not the fuel filter- try plugs and wires... could be a number of things, if the vehicle runs fine while in park and doesnt hesitate, most likely is sprk plugs and wires or a transmission problem...

SOURCE: Where is the fuel filter located on a 2006 Ford

Hello there:
if you have your filter great or if not use FRAM G8018 from WalMart for around $8 and then get the fuel line removal tool from Pepboys or autozone for $7. Tool should be 5/16" fuel line disconnect.

  • No need to raise the vehicle.
  • Due to the amount of fuel, that could come out I would use battery powered work light, not 110V AC for safety reasons.

  1. Pull relay #53 from fuse panel under hood. This disconnects fuel pump.
  2. Start engine and let it die. Restart again.
  3. Filter is located under passenger side center seat.
  4. sometimes more fuel will come out than expected. so make sure to Use a clean oil drain pan, or coffee can to catch the excess fuel .
  5. Use tool to disconnect fuel lines. Loosen single screw/clamp. Note the direction of filter.
  6. Replace filter, tighten clamp screw, reconnect fuel lines.
  7. Replace relay. turn the key to the on position for 45 seconds to get the fuel back in the lines
  8. Test by starting car, shut it down, look for leaks. If no leaks start car again, let idle and inspect for leaks again.
Hope this is very helpful for you.
Best regards Michael

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2006 ford freestar

Fuel filter is typically under the driver side door on the underside of the car in the fuel line. It looks like a mini keg.

My 2006 ford freestar is cutting out when driving, also when you start it, it tends to drag like it is not getting gas.

Check the fuel relay. They have a small circuit board in them that eventually rots out.
