There are only two ways the engine oil can rise on the dip stick . The coolant is leaking into the sump. cracked head, faulty gasket, or leaking expansion plug. or fuel bypassing the rings and entering the sump. If it is coolant the oil will be a creamy color .

Also it could be leaking from the valve cover gasket in which you replace the gasket.

An engine does not make oil, but it can spill the oil that should be inside. You could have an oil leak, which means that oil will be leaking from either the front or the rear oil seal. The front oil seal is just behind the crank pulley, the one that drives the fan / alternator belt. If oil is leaking from there, suspect the front seal.
If you have oil leaking from the bell housing, that the the bell shaped metal thingy between the engine and the gearbox. you can suspect the rear oil seal.
If you inspect the engine and see oil leaking from the oil pan under the engine, you have a leaking pan gasket. This can usually be solved by tightening the pan bolts, a whole lot of bolts underneath the engine.
Finally, and this is probably the worst, if you see oil around the breather pipe that goes from the valve cover on top of the engine to the gas intake system, you have leaking compression, that means either the valve stem seals are leaking or the compression rings are finished, and you will have to have the engine overhauled, or at the very least have the cylinder head overhauled.
If the rings are suspect, you will also have excessive smoke out of the exhaust when you drive, especially when you accelerate. Check the exhaust for signs of wet oil.

Hi, we have found that differant makes & grades of oil used in engines can make...

Believe it or not, it is normal for these engines to use about a quart every 2000 even when they are essentially new. Note that I said, "use", not "burn". The combination of higher compression and operating temperatures causes oil to pass through the engine. You might notice your tail pipes have a good coating on the inside. I managed to slow the process by converting to Mobil 1 0W40. I get much better performance and I only use a quart every 3500-4000.

1998 Chevy Malibu is using excessive oil. Had an oil change done back in October 2012 . Then checked Oil level in December of 2012 and was about 3/4 low in oil! why ?

first thing check make sure oil pan drain plug tight. check make sure oil filter tight. try tighten oil filter by hand see if turn tighten oil filter clockwise direcction if all is good. how many miles on vechicle.could have oil leaks park vechicle in spot that clean.move vechicle see if you see oil spots on ground if yes.your front timing cover seal leaking oil or rear main oil seal ;eaking.or valve cover gaskets leaking.if find no oil leaks more likely engine burning oil.replace pcv valve.check air filter if you see oil in air filter housing either have bad pcv valve or pcv not getting vacuum make sure pcv valve getting vacuum when engine running vacuum should be felt at pcv if not pcv valve bad or pcv hose disconnected broken or plugged.if pcv valve okay engine has worn piston rings.worn valve seals or guides or oil return holes stopped up thats all possible reasons for engine burning oil.if spark plugs oil fouled engine burning oil.

I have a nosie that sound like my engine is dissel

engine valves noises, either oil too thick.engine oil and oil filter need changing if oil dirty contaminated with gas and antifreeze which will dilute make oil too thin causing low oil pressure causing lifter noise dirt get trapped in lifters orifice holes cause lifter noise.make sure engine not overheating that will cause lifters noise.if engine oil been changed and oil filter been changed either lifters worn or oil passages in the cylinder head need flushing out.i use a can of engine flush.drain out pint of old engine oil out of crankcase.pour engine can of flush in oil crank case start engine let it idle good 10- 15 minutes let the engine flush out sludge build up out the engine cylinder block.now if engine oil is too thin and diluted you need to drain out two quarts and add two good quarts.because if engine oil is too thin diluted it will cause engine bearing failure quick.after you finish the engine flush then you do your oil and oil filter change.after another 300 to 500 miles change oil filter again or get a garage flush out engine if you do it wrong you will damage engine bearings make sure engines has correct oil level. reason i say drain out pint old oil from crankcase and add can of engine flush to keep from over filling crankcase.now if your oil is too thin diluted you need to drain out 2 quarts and add 2 new quarts to keep engine oil getting too thin.engine rinso will thin out oil and flush out sludge carbon build up out of engine block oil passages.when you are done.then you need to change oil filter and engine oil change. do leave engine rinso mix with new engine oil it will thin out oil enough do engine bearing damage.make sure before doing engine flush that oil level on engine oil dip stick at full mark.

What does it mean when the oil can light is red.. And also does this light glow yellow

Worst case: low oil pressure or you are very low on oil. It's also possible the oil pressure sensor is bad. Best case: it's time for an oil change. I can't tell you any more than that because you didn't state your model, and I'm not familiar with VW's indicator conventions. Do you have the owner's manual? It should provide you with more specific information.

In any case, check your oil immediately.

How to check an oil pressure cricuit switch?

make sure it isnt leaking when it has oil pressure. Make sure the wire is hooked up to the oil pressure switch. Use an ohm meter black to the housing and red to the terminal it should have a completed circuit with the engine off. The circuit will be complete with the engine running. Remove the oil sending unit and check the oil pressure with a guage to read the oil pressure on the engine (make sure the oil level is correct on the engine).

How do you change the oil in a 2005 sunfire

FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED 4.0 QUARTS OF OIL FOR 2.2L 2.3L AND 2.4L OHC ENGINES AND THE 2.2L OHC USES 5.0 QUARTS WITH NEW OIL FILTER.TO GET START YOU NEED A FILTER WRENCH,DRAIN PAN, RUBBER GLOVES WHICH PROTECT HANDS FROM OIL. OILWILL CAUSE CANCER , IF STAYS ON SKIN TOO LONG.YOU NEED TO CRANK ENGINE UP LET IT IDLE 5 MINUTES TO THIN OUT MOTOR OIL SO IT CAN FLOW FASTER.WHEN 5 MINUTES UP.TURN OFF ENGINE.SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS ON SOLID LEVEL GROUND.SLIDE DRAIN PAN UNDER THE CAR OIL PAN. PUT ON RUBBER GLOVES THEN REMOVE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG ON BOTTOM OF OIL PAN USING A 15 METRIC SOCKET WITH RATCHET WRENCH.WHEN ALL OIL DRIPS.SCREW IN TIGHTEN OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG BACK IN OIL PAN REMOVE OIL FILTER ITS NEXT TO OIL PAN USE SOCKET TYPE OIL FILTER WRENCH IF OIL FILTER IS DOWNWARD POSITION. IF OIL FILTER ON THE SIDE YOU NEED THE BAND TYPE OIL FILTER WRENCH. ****** NOTE THIS THE 2.2L OHC ENGINE USES A OIL FILTER ELEMENT THAT HOUSED INSIDE A RECEPTACLE LOCATED AT THE LEFT FRONT CORNER OF THE ENGINE.YOU UNSCREW THE OIL FILTER CAP THEN LIFT THE CAP AND OIL FILTER FROM THE FILTER RECEPTACLE IN THE ENGINE.SEPERATE THE OIL FILTER ELEMENT FROM THE CAP USING A CLEAN RAG REMOVE OIL DIRT AND SLUDGE FROM THE OIL FILTER CAP AND FROM THE RIM AROUND THE OIL FILTER RECEPTACLES.INSTALL A NEW O RING INTO THE GROOVE IN THE CAP.THEN INSTALL THE NEW FILTER ELEMENT IN THE CAP AND INSERT BOTH INTO THE FILTER RECEPTACLE.SCREW DOWN THE CAP AND TIGHTEN IT SECURELY. WHEN ALL IS DONE POUR NEW OIL IN CRANK CASE.MAKE SURE OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK ON THE FULL MARK YOU CRANK THE ENGINE.MAKE SURE OIL DRAIN PLUG SCREWED BACK IN OIL PAN.WHEN INSTALLING OIL FILTER FILL IT HALF WAY WITH NEW ENGINE OIL,RUB OIL ON FILTER SEAL TO HELP IT SEAL TO ENGINE.BESURE WIPE OIL FILTER SEAL SURFACE ON ENGINE TO MAKE SURE IT CLEAN. WHEN ALL IS DONE CRANK ENGINE UP CHECK FOR OIL LEAKS.IF ALL IS GOOD LOWER CAR BACK TO GROUND,YOU DONE.

2000 Mazda Protege SE Oil Leak . Have not had a oil change recently. I parked the car at office. After an hour I saw lots of oil appearing centre of engine

Check for broken gaskets on the bottom and the top of the engine. Make sure your oil filter is not broken, make sure the drain plug is in and secure, also make sure your oil pump is working correctly and not leaking oil. Its all about looking for the leak, just inspect the engine REALLY well.
