2002 Mercury Mountaineer will not go anymore than 5 miles and hour. It starts and idles fine but seems to get bogged down when the gas is peddle is pressed. Is this a problem with the cat converter?

if your exhaust smells like rotten eggs then yes ,,if not you need new coils and plugs/wires ..My thinking from what you stated is that you have a stopped up fuel filter and injectors need cleaned ..I am 90% sure of the later part

Hi,
The air cleaner mighty be clogged causing insufficient air supply. That is why it runs fine on idle because less air is needed and when the engine demands for more air, there isn't enough.
