Cannot determine from the description of the problem if rewiring power to pump resolved the loss of the electrical power or not. Now when it dies, is there still a loss of electrical power? If there is still a loss of electrical power, ensure that the new wiring is connected to the 'Engine Switched' side of the power system. In other words, only when the engine is turned on, power is applied to the fuel pump. If power is good, mostly likely there is a clog in the fuel system (lines) between the pump and the fuel injectors. It doesn't necessarily mean trash was sucked out of tank, today's ethanol gas can trash a fuel system from the inside out. Being a 1990...vehicles back then were less compatible with ethanol. If pump has power and running, fuel lines may need a good flush (multiple flushes maybe to get it all). When it quits, a simple pressure test at the injectors may help determine if fuel is getting to engine. Keep it simple...walk the dog. Make sure you've got good pressure at pump, follow fuel line hand over hand to the next connection, test pressure again, keep going until you find loss of pressure. Good luck...these type of problems are not fun to troubleshoot, not difficult either, just time consuming.

I also agree it sounds like a fuel pump issue. Its easiest to remove the box (6 bolts {need impact wrench} disconnect wires at plugs and disconnect gas filler hose) and lift box up. A hoist is easiest but 6 people can lift it easily. The fuel pump can easily then be replaced. Takes about 1 1/2 hrs. to do entire job this way and its so much easier!
Good Luck!

CHECK AIR FILTER FOR RESTRICTION. A BAD SUPPLY PUMP. OUT OF FUEL. BLOCKED FUEL RETURN LINE. AIR LEAK IN SUCTION LINE. RESTRICTED FUEL FILTER. INOPERATIVE FAST IDLE. LOW IDLE SPEED AND DEFECTIVE INJECTION PUMP.THIS IS A LIST OF THINGS TO CHECK.

I had a very similar problem except I would have to throttle my truck just to keep it running. It wouldn't even idle. If I were you check the spray pattern on your fuel injectors. It should look like a nice misty cone. Youy dont want lage drips of fuel, you want a mist. Also cut into your fuel line to test your fuel pressure. It should be around 9-13 psi. My truck had 3psi. I then replaced the fuel pump and the problem was solved. Hope this works for you.

It's hard to figure out whats going on with out any codes. Im thinking maybe the fuel pump. To check it after it stops and doe'snt start squirt some starting fluid into the carb and see if it wants to start. If it trys to start then it's a fuel problem.

Wouldn't happen to be a diesel, would it? If so, do a search on ebay for a remote fsd/pmd module. Fixed my 95 'rado (in less than 20 minutes) with a 6.5 turbo diesel -it would stall wherever and whenever it wanted, without warning.
