SOURCE: Transmission

If it is an automatic the best thing to use is chrysler automatic trans fluid Most 1998 Ford F150s take Mercon V...also check for leak. The transmission dipstick is located on the passengers side rear. Near the firewall / or back of the engine. The dipstick is color yellow or red. use long funnel.

SOURCE: how many quarts of transmission fluid takes ford

about 15 if you have a flush machine do it. If you do a drain and fill you'l only drain about half of it out. so your not really gaining anything by doing it yourself

SOURCE: replace transmission fluid. How to...

- Drive the vehicle for at least 15 minutes to warm the lubricant in the case (withe 4WD engaged if possibile).
- Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
- Remove the drain plug from the lower part of the case and allow the old lubricant to drain completely .
- After the lubricant has drained completely, reinstall the plug and tighten it securely.
- Remove the filler plug from the case.
Fill the case with the specified lubricant, until it is level with the lower edge of the filler hole.
- Install the filler plug and tighten it securely.
- Drive the vehicle for a short distance, then check the drain and fill plugs for leakage.

Check transmission fluid

The most common transmission problem on a Nissan pickup is operating the truck with the transmission fluid low. Nissan owners needs to pull the dip-stick and see if the level is low. The fluid level must be checked when the truck engine is idling. Nissan pickup owners also need to look at the color of the fluid and see if it needs to be changed or just leveled off. The color must be transparent and not black or brownish in color. The owner must also smell the transmission fluid to see if the fluid smells burnt. If the transmission fluid smells burnt, then the transmission fluid must be changed as soon as possible. Over-filling the transmission fluid level also creates Nissan pickup transmission problems.

Sir, i have a 1991 ford pickup ranger. Is it hard to put transmission fluid into this pickup doing it myself. What do i need and what kind of fluid do I need. Mrs Jenkins. [email protected]

if this is an automatic transmission you just put the fluid down the dipstick tube you will need a transmission funal to do this and the fluid is Dextron II.

if this truck has a manual transmission you will need to jack the truck up and put on jack stands and go under truck and on the right side of the transmission you will see a check plug that has a square head remove the plug and fill with 80w-90 gear lube till it starts coming out the check hole.
