My car will sometime not shift out of park on hot days. I don't know why this happens but in the meantime I've been told I should be able to find an override button to get it out of park. I can't find it. Anyone know where it is?
Unable to shift out of park on very hot days in my Mazda6 2003, was becoming a serious problem this summer.....there is no override button/key on this model. I had it to the Mazda dealership five times before the problem was corrected! Initially the wrong diagnosis was made and replacement of something connected to the brake did not correct the problem. Finally, the shifter was replace and the problem was solved. $$$ Seems like there have been many different electrical problems with this model....some under warranty, some not. I will not ever buy another Madza.......there is no excuse to design a car without an override button or key! ( It was scary to be stuck on sweltering hot days not being able to get out of park.....had I ever had my grand babies with me when this happened, I would have been desperate.)
Shift solenoid in the shift console best to let dealership fix.

With the engine running, you should be able to feel and hear the shift-lock engage and disengage when you slowly press and release the brake. Start her up, turn the radio off, put your hand on the shifter and give it a try.
If you hear or "feel" it, and it won't shift, I'm guessing your linkage is out of whack, perhaps a result of the accident.
If you don't feel it, I'm guessing it's not getting the "unlock" signal from the brake switch. I believe the shift-lock switch is located at the top of the brake pedal assembly, where it pivots up under the dash. There's probably two switches there, one for brake lights, the other for the lock. Crane your head up under there and take a look. If you're lucky its just misaligned in its bracket. Pump the pedal by hand and see if the switches are being allowed to fully open. If they do, and still no shifty, then its off to the repair shop of Mazda Stealership.
Good luck.

It's a vacuum issue. Check the brake booster check valve and grommet. Could be the brake booster itself or the line going to it as a starting point.
