I was confused by this too. Here's the trick: When you inflate the mattress, you unscrew the square-shaped plastic cap, like this:But this is *not* the cap you unscrew to deflate it!To deflate it, you have to unscrew the plastic at the *round* part that's beneath the square cape -- i.e. the part of the plastic that's affixed directly to the mattress. When you unscrew the round part, the entire plastic apparatus detaches from the mattress, leaving a big open round hole where the air rushes out.It looks like this:

Press the button in BUT then ALSO slide the whole 2" inch black plastic section downwards towards the floor. It then collapses/expands out ever so easy. I was ONLY pressing the button in instead which is why it didn't work.

there is a slide button on the top of the leg on the right hand side as you stand behind it
it can be a bit sticky just wiggle the leg a bit but don't force it

pull the leg open and it should click to stop it closing and the reverse for closing the leg

Just a random guess, have you tried the hardware store? My experience is hardware stores are pretty terrible when they are larger, but if you go to an ACE hardware or similar, they often have a nice selection of screws, nuts, bolts etc. If you have some like what you need, take them with.
