When I press the HotSync on the Trio 90 cable (I do not use a cradle) in place of the moving red and blue arrows moving, the Microsoft Unplug or Eject Hardware icon appears in the lower right portion of the task bar. I assume this means that contact has been made between the Treo 90 and the PC. This icon remains until I receive the following message on the Treo 90:
“HotSync Problem”
“The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again.
This problem began after I updated to WinDesktop_401_ENG_V, Treo90Updater11, and PMStdUpdate3171.
I downloaded USBRegClean.exe and used it. Then I reinstalled WinDesktop_401_ENG_V and the problem continued.
I emailed my log to Chapura Support. Unfortunately, this was done after I had uninstalled and reinstalled everything and the log did not show here a Synchronization had been established because after the reinstall, I have been unable to Synchronize.
I checked the PalmOne knowledge base and did the following:
I checked to make sure the cable from the HotSync was is securely attached to the USB port in the back of the PC and that the cable was securely in the Treo 90.
I click on the HotSync manager, (Double arrow icon on
the bottom right corner of computer screen), click on setup and then
local tab and first set it to PC overwrites Handheld, this did not work, I then reset it to Synchronize, this did not work, I then reset it to Handheld overwrites P.C. This did not work. I also changed the speed settings to 9600. This did not work.
I did a soft reset of the Treo 90. The reset took place, but the problem persisted.
I did a hard reset, then uninstalled and reinstalled everything. However, when I try a HotSync, I keep getting the Microsoft unplug or eject hardware icon.
I uninstalled all UBS ports. The problem continued.
Chapura Support suggested using PalmOne’s HotSyncCheck which I interpreted to be the “USBRegClean.exe” and used it again and then reinstalled WinDesktop_401_ENG_V successfully. However, when I reinstalled Treo90Updater11, and PMStdUpdate3171, when I attempted a HotSync it failed and I continued to get the Microsoft Unplug or Eject Hardware icon.
Is there a fix? Is it possible that the problem is physically located in the Treo 90? If so, where can I take it to be checked and serviced if necessary?
Thank you for your attention to this problem
I read and followed several troubleshooting articles from the Palm OS site, including these: 34697 26460 31991 10089 26674 10092 10082 Installed Palm OS 4.0.1 30421 3447 25019 10099 36950 887
However, none of those technical articles helped much, except after going through them, my Palm OS desktop started to work after not opening up at all. Still, my Handspring Platinum would not sync with my PC.
What brought success was following these articles:
2630 1409 28618 (Part 1 of 3) 28623 (Part 2 of 3)
In 28263 (part 2) it said to reinstall certain drivers (steps 5, etc.). As soon as I did that, everything started to work just fine and has been ever since.
First thought is that the cable has become defective - they do go wrong.
Assuming the visor is fine other than when hotsyncing, I suggest you reinstall the Desktop manager and hotsync manager on your PC or Mac, HAVING BACKED UP ALL FILES of course.
Sometimes the managers get corrupted and cause problems. Try that first, then check cable and finally a hard reset, assuming you have hotsynced recently and so won't lose loads of information.

unfortunately, the password is made for protection from accidental or intentional access. The only way to bypass this would be to perform a hard reset and then hotsync your phone with your computer to put your contacts back on your phone.
For performing the hard reset that reformats your phone to factory condition, please follow the instructions below:
1. Press and hold down the red phone key on the right side of the Treo 650 keyboard until the Palm screen appears. This will begin the hard reset
2. Let go of the red phone button when you see the Palm screen.
3. Read the screen prompt carefully. It will ask you to press the up arrow key to proceed with the hard reset or the down arrow key to abort. Press the up arrow to continue with the hard reset. 4. Wait for the phone to reboot. When it comes back on, it will ask you to select a language and walk you through the same introductory screens you saw when you first got the phone. 5. HotSync your Treo 650 to your computer. When prompted, select your old username to restore all of your contacts and information. This should complete the hard reset process.

Finally found this solution! It is a connection issue at the bottom of the phone where you would plug in the cable to hotsync your phone.
Put in your hotsync cable and wiggle it around really good and it will fix the issue. Do this with the battery out and then pop it in until you have fixed the issue. Took me a few tries as I was worried about how hard to do it, but no problem!
Bueno, trata lo siguente:
If you purchased the Treo in the U.S., you should have the English to Spanish option when you reset the phone. Just make sure to back up your data before resetting it.

Tips & Warnings
Do not forget to back up your data before performing the hard reset. If you don't, only the data from your last HotSync will be able to be recovered.
After performing a hard reset, install your applications one at a time to make sure each is in working order. Delete any applications that are not in working order, as those might have caused the need for the hard reset in the first place.
Buenas Suerte,
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe Diaz

You have at least one application that is attempting a serial connection with the PC and is triggering hotsync instead. Many palm apps that allow live updating to your device when cradled or over blue-tooth can cause this type of error. I would take inventory of any software you added recently to your device or port settings you may have changed, especially regarding direct connect and cradle settings.
What are you trying to sync to on your computer? First thing you always want to check is to right-click on the Hotsync icon in your system tray (the little red and blue circular arrows) and make sure there is a check mark next to "USB"
You may be used to PocketPC ActiveSync.
HotSync is an asynchronous synch model - you synch upon demand but not continuously. Pocket PC devices synch all the time while in the cradle. There are advantages to both models.
If you want to synch a Palm OS device, you need to press the button. There are some extra appliactions available on www.palmgear.com that will force your device to synch upon a schdule.
Try looking at (from the main applications menu) Preferences, then Security. I have a T5, so the operating system is likely different, but there are two passwords there that can be enabled...password and quick unlock. I know if I push the hotsync button on my cable to sync before I unlock the T5, it will prompt me for a password. You can also try making sure you are logged in and have access to your Treo "before" hitting the hotsync button. On the T5, if I'm already on the T5 and hotsync I don't get prompted for a password.
If this is totally off-base due to the differences in the T5 and Treo, I apologize for the confusion.
