I am the default IT guy for now at a small business. I have internet coming into my modem, I have internet coming out of the modem if I go straight from the modem to computer via ethernet. As soon as I hook up ethernet cables to the wireless router I have nothing. I have full signal on the router but no internet. How do I lose the internet when it hits the router? I have switched out the router and done a full reset.

What internet service are you using?
Is this service using a router of its own?
Is the service set up PPPoe on the modem?

SOURCE: Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

SOURCE: I have a WBR-2310 D-Link wireless router.

1. Reset the cable modem. There should be a reset button on the rear... hold it in for 10 seconds. If there is no button, unplug it (pull the backup battery too, if applicable)

2.Login to your routers web interface. IP address should be 192.168.0.1

3.Click the status tab.

4.Under WAN>Connection> click "DHCP Release"-----> Then click "renew"

If that does not work Return to the routers web interface. Click the setup tab ----> click "Manual configure"

Under DHCP Internet connection type> click "clone mac address"

Do NOT forget to save your changes before switching tabs in the routers web interface.

I just recently had an RCA dcm425 modem installed today. I, stupidly, did not check the Internet connection before the installation guy left. Now, the cable activity light is flashing and the cable link...

it is common for the network port to fail on the DCM425s. a couple of things to try...1. a new network cabe2. hold the reset for 30 seconds (small hole on the back)3. try using the usb connection (this will not allow for a router connection and XP should give you a genaric driver so that you can see if the modem is working other than the network port)
if all else fails, it would probably be easier to take the modem into the local office and ask for an exchange. trust me, i am a service tech for a cable company and it is a lot easier to take the modem in for an exchange than arguing with some one on the phone who has no clue how to trouble shoot a modem and then waiting for another incompetent tech (if he didn't check to verify that it was working he was incompetent) back out to screw it up again. also ask if they have any motorola modems... there more reliable.

Have lost security key for modem

you might have to reset your modem to factory defaults this will delete all saved configuration data you have set up on your modem depending on which modem you have there might be a reset switch or a small hole at the rear of your modem you might have to use a paper clip press a small button inside this hole
if its linked directly to your internet contract you could ring your ISP internet service provider and get the password from them hope this helps

I plug my router into my modem and it just doesn't want to work with me. Everything was working fine, and then last night my connection gradually got worse until I lost the Internet. I plugged my computer...

There must be a small reset button on your router. Hold it down for 30 seconds. Release it. wait for one minute. Now unplug the power and plug it back in. Wait for 1 minute.
Once you reset the router, it will come back to factory default settings.
You will need to reconfigure the router form the start according to your Internet service provider.

Connection is slow

the internet connection it's slow?
try to go to www.speedtest.net
run a test if it's a lot lower than the speed you're paying for make sure you dont have a splitter or filter between the modem and the jack.
if you dont replace the phonecable
powercycle to the modem.
if stills doesnt help connect the modem straight to the pc without the router.
if the speed its a lot faster its going to be a problem with the router, if the problem persist contacn you internet service provider.

Linksys router will not connect to internet

The modem looks like a cable modem from what I have found. You should press the small reset button on the back of the router for about 3 seconds and it should go back to factory settings. Connect the router to the modem and unplug power to the modem, then power it back on and the modem should recognize the router. If this works make sure to login to the router and set passwords and security to something other then the defaults. The Linksys routers usually are addressed at 192.168.1.1 with a default username blank and password of admin. Good Luck

If no power lights come on... it looks bad, but try another power adapter on the router before tossing it... could be that.

I hv 2 wire modem bought from my friend, I don't know how to reset user ID and password in this modem

you can try resetting the modem by picking a small pin and pocking in behund the modem which states "reset"
Or if you can access the gateway you can reset it from there.
to access gateway in case type in your browser -- > http://gateway.2wire.net/mdc - <-- you will be prompted to enter password . The default password is 2wire . Once you entered in , scroll down to Troubleshooting which will be on your left
, search for resets <--- Click on it, it will direct you to a page where you can reboot system and stuffs.. Click on the button RESET beside factory defaults. Your modem will be reset to factory default, your power light will change orange and be normal back for about 10 secs ... When everything has come back to normal, you can then continue to enter your user id and password to log in internet.Or alternatively u can Go to http://gateway.2wire.net/setup <--- and configure your modem from there with a step by step guide :)

THANKS
