My 32" tv/dvd unit has sound but no picture. The dvd works but not the TV. It has been pixelating for a few days but I thought it was the cable company. The DVD picture is clear as can be.

No picture at all even when discs are loaded in the DVD unit? Sounds like an AV switching fault on your TV, not the fact of 'going digital'. The easiest and cheapest way to determine this is to connect the unit to a different TV with AV inputs, to see if there is picture/sound. If so, the unit is OK, and your original TV may have a fault which will require attention by a qualified technician in an authorised service workshop. Unless the TV is a few years old, in which case it would be more economical to replace it with a newer model and/or more user options. If it is not a set with a digital tuner, just analogue, consider upgrading it.
However, if connecting the unit to a different TV produces the same result (no picture etc), then the unit itself is faulty, and again, consider the workshop idea, but if you decide to go this way, get a quote and a second opinion from them first before allowing them to go ahead with repairs.
Not the remote,it is the tv itself. Now,turn on the tv it have a flashes of pictures only a few sec. than dies and have sound left only?Yes,than the tv have a 1 or 2 long board call the LCD inverter boards, they are dead. These 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards help the LCD screen panel to have a backlight to produced a picture.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy those 1 or 2 refurbishes long LCD inverter boards for the replacement.
Our Samsung DVD/VCr all in one combo did a similar thing.
I used the HDMI cable for the DVD into the TV input labeled HDMI/DVD. That worked okay.
But the VCR part didn't work. At one point I got sound but no picture. Using the RCA cables in the back on another input "Component 1"
I was trying to squeeze the best picture out of the player using the S-VHS cable.
I thought it did picture only, but the Plasma seems to be more picky about input sources.
I got everything to work keeping the DVD as a separate HDMI to Plasma TV feed. The VCR was 3 RCA's Yellow (picture) red and white for stereo sound.
I then reset (toggled through the inputs to "reset" the TV.
It finally worked but I was two days mulling it over.
See if this works for you. My TV was a Panasonic Plasma, but shouldn't matter. Skip the S-VHS line and connect the inoputs with the TV off. You MAy need to go into the input of set up menu on the TV (ours had a wrench as an icon) and set the Component 1 or 2 to "VCR".
Good day.
Try to remove the cover of your unit and clean the tube with a dry cloth. try to look for the anode cap. the one tht is connected to your tube if there are holes in it. This causes the problem.
If the tv does not have sound with out connecting the dvd then you are having a problem in your audio circuit have a tech look at it.if its only when you connect the dvd then you could have connect cables wrong.you cannot route a dvd through a cable box.any dvd s compatible with tv so long as the connections are there. goodluck.
