4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.
You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.
This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook) NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.
All of pre-HDD cam does have FireWire port somewhere in it (or at the docking station in case of SONY's)
In
order to capture the footage from the cam to your PC,you need the
Firewire card and the cable.Should be available at any computer hardware
store. All you have to do is to install the card to your PC,connect your
cam to your computer via the cable, then capture the video by your
favorite video editing software.
Yes,that sounds a bit more
difficult than drag-and-drop work in USB-connection camera, but not too

I bought my DCR-SR40 used (just camera) and I have the same problem. Downloaded the instruction manual from sony and discovered the only way to connect to a computer is through the
Sony Camcorder Docking Station #DCRA-C162 and a Special USB Cable!
if your docking station is not recognized then go to start manu and then go to search and search dell dock u find it and click on it your dell dock is starting
Does your camera having a docking station? If so, press the "burn to disc" button on the docking station, while the USB is connecting camera to computer.
