Computer not seeing camera

I have a Sony DCR-TRV120. I have it hooked to a Dell laptop by S-VHS cable via the docking station. The computer is not recognizing the camera. Ideas?

I dnt hav usb cable for my handy cam DCR-HC52E ...

Product Summary
4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.

You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.

This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook)
NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.

Hi All, I have DCR-TRV238E Digital 8 Handycam... I want to transfer the recorded video to my computer... Can you please tell me where i can download the software to upload the video on to my computer...

All of pre-HDD cam does have FireWire port somewhere in it (or at the docking station in case of SONY's)

In order to capture the footage from the cam to your PC,you need the Firewire card and the cable.Should be available at any computer hardware store. All you have to do is to install the card to your PC,connect your cam to your computer via the cable, then capture the video by your favorite video editing software.

Yes,that sounds a bit more difficult than drag-and-drop work in USB-connection camera, but not too difficult to understand,of course.
