Mine started shutting off when I play a demo, it can't be overheating because I play games and search the net for hours. When I played the new madden 09 for about 20 or 30 min. my system shut off and will not power on again. I used to be able to turn it right back on when it shut down like that. Does it make a difference if you have the original power cord or not, cause the cord I'm using came off a pc monitor
In all actuality, it shouldn't make a difference. But there are select cords out there that may have a short or deliver the wrong voltage. That is why in the Sony warranty it says that the warranty is void if you use a cable thatisn't approved by Sony for use with the PS3.
So does the red standby light come on when you power on the toggle switch in the back?? If not then it is the power supply. You will need a new power supply installed.
If it does the old Green/Yellow/flashing Red when you push the front power button, the you have some motherboard problems and need to call Sony or sell it and get a new one, or find the problem and fix it.

Maybe a simple question, but do you have a good connection to the internet? If so, then either the game publisher won't let you play the demo online anymore, or the game's servers are down. If the servers are down, you should be able to play the demo within a day. If not, I'm afraid you're out of luck.
If not, the game is just fine, you just cannot connect to the internet. If you need help fixing your internet connection, let me know.
if it is 2 red rings it is overheating. moved it to a place that is not confined. or get an after market fan add on. if it is more than 2 rings, you need to send it in for repair
If you are using an onboard graphics card, it is very likely that the system is overheating with this game as the game requires greater resources than the system can offer. Best thing is to check the games vendor info website and see what graphics cards are recommended for it.

This is a built in temperature overheating contermeasure. Make sure your xbox is not in an enclosed area or on a carpet. If posssible, place a fan next to it and see if that gets you increased playtime. If it does, then you know its a problem with it overheating.
Is this only playing a specific game? Every Game? Demos? Listening to Music? Watching Dvds?
