It depending on exactly what your seeing that will determine the problem.
Does your washer start agitating and keep filling?? if yes it does start agitating and the water continuies to fill try disconnectiing the power and if it keeps filling what would be wrong is that the water inlet valve is sticking open and it would need to replaced
If the washer continues to fill and does not start agaitating would be a defective water level switch as you suspect it may be.If ya disconnect the power and it STOPS filling replace the water level(pressure) switch.
This sounds like the transmission is having a problem and can be a very costly repair. If you haven't money to repair it, as it seems you may not, you can try free cycle dot org and see if any one is willing to give you a used machine they aren't using.
This is symptomatic of a malfunctioning water control valve- the hot water one, if the washer is hot and cold fill, and the cold one if it is just cold fill!
Sorry but it needs replacing and a service call ;-0(
Good luck,

did it start agaitating? if yes then its your water valve.[where the fill hoses attach to washer from house] if no then it has to do with water level switch.in whirlpool/kenmore washers its very common for the water presure tube to come off of the water level switch.up in the timer console area.other brands dont have that happen as much.some times a mouse has chewed in that presure tube .see what you can do with that.check back with us if needing more help. God bless ,tom
so it dosent make any noise?your lid switch will stop it from draining and spinning but it will agaite on most kenmore waskers.if i came to repair that would be my starting point
