Are the brushes free of threads, lint, pet hair? If not, this can stop them from rotating. Check the outer edges near the wheel case as well. You can use tweezers to remove all the "tangler" stuff! I hope this helps. If it does, please rate my suggestion. Thanks.

I own the same model. handheld unit worked, but the brushes wouldn't. Opened the unit by removing the screws under the water tank and the plastic trim. found the sprayer hose had broken and was spraying water/soap INSIDE the unit.signifigant amount of corrosion in a couple of the connectors and the motor. Replaced the hose, connectors ($2), and the brush motor ($30), reassembled everything and it works like a champ. pliers, screwdriver, wire strippers were the only tools I used.

Brush doesnt spin - Brush motor check?

A broken drive belt, damaged brush roll, jammed brush roll bearings, tripped brush roll motor overload, failed brush roll motor or a wiring failure in the wand or nozzle can prevent the brush roll from spinning.

My Dyson Animal has good suction and works fine for actually picking up dirt, but when I use the vacuum with the roller, I hear a grinding/rumbling noise. Its only when I use the vacuum with the brush...

Trace the path of the suction into the tank and see if there is anything loose or ingested. Also, remove the brush and clean as best you can. Perhaps there is something caught in it. Lubricate where it makes sense with some WD40.

The brushes and the belt are not rotating. The power seems fine and there is suction. I have no other history on this problem since I was given this almost new unit over Thanksgiving. Where should I be...

If you've got suction, but the brushes and belt are not rotating, then either the belt has come off the motor shaft, or the belt is broken and just looks OK.

Remove the bottom cover off the floor head and check that the brush roller turns freely. If it does, then check the belt.

Let me know if you need additional repair information.

Rotating brush will not turn on my Dyson DC07

Yes I had the same problem on my animal Dysom. There is a button on the top of the dysom that turns the cacuum on. Right beside that button is another one that turns on and off the brush!!! Good luck!!! I accidently one day bumped that button and couldn't get my brush to work but after troubleshooting it, that was my solution.

Suction not working

Hi,

Ok first thing to do is remove & clean the 2 piece premotor filter or purchase new.

Now remove soleplate from bottom of machine to do this rotate the 3 plastic screws to unlock position. Lift sole plate off now remove any blockagers or fluff that may be built up over the brush roller.
Remove hair from brush roll using scissors.

Check short clear hose for blockages & any damage rips or tares if it is damaged purchase new hose.

Now look at belts & rotate brush roller it should turn relatively easy if it is difficult to turn by hand remove the brush roller & pull off the end caps the axle will come out with one of the caps.
Check the roller bearings clean away dust build up replace end caps & axle spin roller holding on to end cap if freely to spin refit back on to machine.

If its stiff to rotate you will need new roller.

Now pull off the 2 inspection ports check them for bits of paper etc especialy the (U) shaped port at bottom rear of machine this can contain pens pencills stones all sorts of items that hinder the suction.

Now check the long flexi hose & metal wand for any obstructions.

If after all this machine is still not working correctly go to this site http://dysonmanuals.llc.nu/

On this site you will find Dyson service manuals covering poor suction, clutch, motor, etc.

Brush roller won't turn

On my Dyson, there is a brush reset button on the top right hand side (if you are looking at the front) that you can press to reset the brush. I was vacuuming and too lazy to move a toy and this worked for me once I freed the rope from the brush.

Not enough suction for Panasonic MC-V5716 upright

Probably not the motor protector, its function is shut off the motor if it overheats. Most likely you have a clog or partial clog in the inlet down by the brush roll, or it is in the hose. But if the motor is running, and suction is low, with no clogs, then maybe the motor is running at a slower speed and will have to be replaced.
