What does your screen look like? The screen could be manually darkened. Try pressing 2nd-Up to make the screen brighter, or 2nd-Down to make the screen darker. A common prank is to manually set someone's screen to be unnaturally dark or white.

My Compaq Presario CQ56 has calculator that keeps popping up when I press the arrow keys or the numerical keys. Please help!!

Well what I really wanted to know the most is if it pops up while you\'re not even touching your mouse or keyboard...

If you changed your .exe to .com like I said and it came back, then it\'s normal... ... Just delete the calc.com file. Don\'t worry, calc.exe came back on its own so the calc.com we made is now useless. That\'s why you can now delete calc.com. It\'s also just to reset what was in your old calc.exe, in case it has a keyboard shortcut and other hidden stuff integrated.

Still gotta make sure though... Can you right-click on calc.exe and choose "Properties" to see if there\'s any keyboard shortcut? The field (shortcut key) should be left blank in case there\'s something in there. Or to "None".

IF the calc.exe still pops up while you\'re not doing anything, then it\'s time for some hijackthis.

Get it here:

http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-Hijack...4-10227353.html

Do a system scan and save a logfile.

After the scan is over, copy all what\'s in the list (notepad), and post it here.

Let\'s take a look at what\'s running.

My ti89 calc is not working since a year what is the problem? how can i solve in india?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and hold the 2ND key. Tap the Up-arrow key several times and see whether the screen becomes legible.
If that doesn't do it, please respond to this thread and we'll go on from there.

My calc will not turn on, the batteries are new.

It is frozen. the cursor is blinking but none of the buttons work, not even to turn it off or clear the memory. i need this for a test tomorrow. HELP!!

I just had the same problem a few minutes ago and I managed to somehow fix it. Here's what I did:

1. Remove the back cover
2. Unscrew the little screw where it says "back-up battery"
3. Pull the cover off
4. Push in on the circular battery and then let go
5. Replace the cover, and make sure to screw the screw in tight

If that doesn't work, do the same process except remove the AAA batteries before you unscrew the 2nd cover. The manual says not to do that because you might lose memory, but if it's your last resort then it's worth a shot.

Hope that helps, there's a ton of reasons your calc could be malfunctioning so I don't guarantee that this will work.

I just changed the batteries in my calc and now it won't turn on. Is there a reset button?

There's no reset button. But TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't work, remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds. Replace the batteries and turn the calculator on. (You may have to adjust the screen as described above.)

If that doesn't work, please append a comment to this post and we'll go on from there.

None of my buttons work except the ON button

Sounds like a possible short to me, But I don't have experience with that cause I have yet to test my calc with water if you know what I mean... The one thing that I can suggest is trying to connect with another persons calc and try the "send OS" command to see if that will reset your calc to a working state. Sorry to hear about the damage though.
