The Ethernet port works with PS2 Games that are setup for Online play. This Port allows for Online plays with the PS2. If should not be that complicated when you have a online game loaded.
uhh, i don't want to sound sarcastic by this - but the PSP is NOT designed to go online with a USB cable.
The USB cable is used to transfer files to and from the PSP console. You can use it for charging the PSP (Slim) if you don't have a charger with you handy.
Other than that, you can't use the USB cable for anything else.
