I have a Brother MFC 7340. When I scan using the feeder a vertical line appears on the scanned document. Tried cleaning the roller but no luck. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks, Rich.

Clean the ADF glass (the thin piece, not the flatbed glass) with rubbing alcohol, make sure there is no debris on the glass.

When I Scan and PC prints, it comes out Perfect but When I use the Top Feeder to copy I am getting huge line(s) from tom to bottom. Is there a way to do a cleaning on the top feeder of my Brother MFC 7349...

Yes there is a way to get rid of the lines you are seeing when scanning from the document feeder.

Let me see if I can explain this in a way that you will understand?

Stand in front of your printer with it facing you. Make sure the document feeder is empty. Put your hand in where the paper would go, and pull upward towards you or to the left. This will open the top of the paper feed tray and expose the rollers that bring in the paper. You can use a brush to seep out the debris. This is not likely where you are getting the lines from though!

Where the lines come from are inside the flat bed area. If you open it, you will see a big piece of glass where the paper is placed to scan a document. to the left, you will see another small piece of glass and this is where the lights flash that scan the picture into the scanner. Try taking a slean lint free cloth and wipe the small glass area and the paded lid above it to get rid of any lines that are appearing on your documents.

Verticle lines appear on document when scanning through document feeder. No verticle lines on document when it is scanned face down on the glass. How do I clean the document feeder?

There is a thin strip of glass next to the main platen glass, where documents fed through the feeder are scanned. You most likely have Wite-Out or some sort of debris stuck to the glass. You can probably wipe this residue off, but if you need to clean that strip of glass, use alcohol and a lint-free rag.

Brother MFC-7820N Printer--vertical lines

You need to clean the scanner glass. Also known as the strip glass. It is a 1 inch wide strip of glass that runs from the front to the back. Your documents pass over this glass when they are scanned. Some of the wax crayon probably smeared off onto the glass and now when you scan the scanner sees these marks as stationary and thus records them as solid lines. Just look into the scanner section where your documents are fed in or depending on model, some are just to the left of the large original glass.
Good Luck and thank you for using Fixya.

When i used the auto document feeder to scan, a line appeared vertically on the page when scanning is completed.

Check for a spot on the narrow glass, could be white out, or even a staple scratch, you need to clean that glass and also wipe the white guide that sits over the glass.

Very crisp vertical grey line appears (glass clean)

I have the exact same problem. It was there since I first bought the MFC-7840W.
Vertical line appears in scans using the automatic document feeder (ADF).
Vertical line does not appear when scanning single page (placing it directly on the glass -- i.e. not using the ADF).

Cleaning the glass strip for the ADF (or the white pressure bar overhead) does not solve the problem.
The problem does not occur with copies using the ADF (using the COPY button which is basically a scan and print). This would suggest that dust and dirt is not to blame because that would also appear on the copies.
But since I believe a copy is basically a scan plus print, they should be using the same electronics -- a hardware problem on the scan would likely appear on a copy also -- there is some difference between how they accomplish this.
It's definitely not a software issue since it occurs on all versions of Windows and Mac OS X (and multiple computers). It also does not matter whether I "push" the scan to the computer by using the scan button on the MFC... or "pull" the scan from the MFC using the Brother Control Center software.

Vertical black line in scan document not in copies through document feeder

Lift the lid and to the left of the main glass is a smaller glass; that is what scans during the feeding process. Make sure that it is completely clean; even a speck of dust can cause a line to appear. I took a lens wipe and cleaned mine and my line was gone.

Print Problem - vertical lines

If the problem only occurs when using the document feeder, the problem is not usually caused by the drum. When using the document feeder, try to notice where the scanner (the light assembly under your scan glass)stops just before the paper is being fed. Some multifunction machines have a small piece of glass that is separate from the large scan glass and the scanner assembly stays parked underneith it as the original is being fed over it. Most likely there is something on the glass where the scanner parks as originals are being fed thru the feeder. When putting your original on the large scan glass to copy, the mark on the glass will only show as a spot, but will show as a vertical line thru the whole copy when using the feeder.
