My compaq runs slow and will turn off after five minutes

poss overheating--carb needs rebuild--or need tune up

run disc cleanup often

Turn off the pc. wait for five minutes. turn on the pc and just after 2 second start tapping on f8 keyboard which is in the top line of the keyboard.

you will get boot options.

use the arrow key and select safe mode with networking.

Boot to the dekstop and see the performance. If the performance is fine then most probably you security software is causing the issue. Update me with the result then i will provide you further steps.

Overheating, clean vents with compressed air.
Bad battery or AC adapter, replace.

You, more than likely have a VIRUS.. Try these two programs to check and remove them..
1) Malwarebytes Malware Removal http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
2) kaspersky virus removal tool.**Choose the tool at the bottom of the list..

Run full Scans with BOTH OF THESE PROGRAMS. After they have completed, Run Windows CHKDSK /F /R from the Run Command Line in the Start Menu. This will fix any Operating System Issues created by the Virus. GOOD LUCK!!

if you have xp computer follow the process given below:-
start/run/type msconfig/ click startup/disable all/apply and then click services and at the bottom check the box which says hide all microsoft services// restart the computer// it will load faster//
if you have vista follow the same process after typing the msconfig in the start/start search at the bottom//
even if it is slow then 100% your computer is effected by virus//
get it cleaned by the local tech//

go to controll panle open personalize in vista or disply in xp
on the left handside box with time set alter time longer and click apply/ solved dave

Your antitheft system is shutting it down. You need to reprogram it. First hook up a battery charger. Then turn the key on. The security light should blink on and off. Leave the key on for 10 minutes. At the end of ten minutes, the security light will stop blinking. When it does turn the key off for five seconds. Then turn the key on. Repeat the 10minutes. Turn the key off then on. Repeat the 10 minutes a third time. At the end of the 3rd ten minute period , start the truck. It should be reprogrammed and continue to run.

for the display you can check by connecting the laptop to the monitor through the vga port

I also have this problem Ihave replaced the igniter twice this helps some for a while  I AM GETTNG READY to order my third one. had dealer replace once they had no answer cut lighting time from fifteen to twenty minutes to maybe five
