I have not tried this yet but RCA support sent me this.

I suggest updating the firmware on your player. After upgrading the firmware on your player, you must use the easy rip software. This will avoid problems in the future and keep the unit updated

1. Go to www.audiovox.com
2. Go to FAQ’s in search enter M4204
3. Download firmware upgrade
4. Hold play/pause button for 15 seconds
5. Hold menu button for 10 seconds
6. Attach M4204 via USB cable while holding play/pause button
7. This should start the firmware upgrade
8. Possible an error message of “cant write to disk” will pop up
9. Firmware upgrade will end with error do not close
10. Go to My Computer find the drive that holds the MP3 player
11. Right click scroll down to format, format the player
12. Run firmware upgrade again

My mp3 seems to be stuck on initializing. When I plug it in there is no box that asks what I would like to do with it. I can turn it off and when I turn it back on it still says initializing. It was...

There should be a small hole somewhere on one of the sides of the device, small enough that only something such as a needle or a paper clip can fit into it. use a small item to press the button that resides in this hole. Most modern MP3 players have this small hole and its a basic reset function for the operating system that runs the MP3 player. Also you may want to try updating the firmware on your device here

Rca pearl th1602-a I turn it on all I get is the pearl emblem and it wont turn off. I have to pull the battery to stop.

My solution to a Pearl TH1602-A stuck on the pearl screen:

Download the firmware upgrade from RCA's website, run it.
RCA PEARL FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD window should open.
Remove battery from Pearl, keep out.
Press PLAY and hold while plugging into USB port,
when "initializing" progress bar moves, let go off play button.

On my windows, it installed some software and asked me to reboot. After the reboot I re-ran the Pearl firmware file and about 30 seconds later the start button was now available.

Click it. However, You will loose your music on the internal storage.

ON THE BACK OF THE MP3 THERE SHOULD BE A RESET BUTTON AND YOU CAN PUSH THAT WITH THE BACK OF AND EARING. JUST DON'T POKE IT WITH ANYTHING SHARP LIKE A NEEDLE IT CAN DAMAGE THE BUTTON AND MIGHT RESET ITSELF ALL THE TIME.
