I have an LG DR389 DVD recorder I want to unlock the regiond so I can play DVD's from the UK

Most all DVD recorders will finalize once the disc is full.

I was asking the same question for the LG DR389 , but couldn't find any help . With time on hand I explored the remote control .
Try HOME , scroll down to a disk , go right and I got FINALISE ,
click and it activates . I can now play my DVD on any player or my PC . Good Luck !

The DVD+R is the older version that was used, all newer ones use the DVD-R now, your problem is the disc is not recognized in the other players because of the different format.

The short answer is, you can't. The long answer is that a very few units have secret settings menus that will allow you to do this. However, even with this ability the drive will only allow you to change your region 3 times before becoming permanently locked to the last selected region. If you have a PC, it is much easier to buy a drive and change its firmware to allow any disc to be played. Once you do this, you can take any disc you own and re-burn it on your PC as a region 1 disc which will play in your unit. I do this all the time because some movies I buy from the UK were not released in the USA.
