Fax driver missing

Microsoft Office 2010 has a feature that lets you send Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files as Internet faxes. This feature relies on having the Windows Fax Printer Driver or Fax Services installed on the computer to send the faxes. The Windows Fax feature is not enabled by default for all editions of Windows. If your edition of Windows includes the driver or service, you must install it before you can send Internet faxes.
Which operating system are you using? Windows 7
  1. In Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.

Note In Classic view, double-click Programs and Features.

  1. Click Turn Windows features on or off.
  2. In the Windows Features dialog box, under Print and Document Services, select the Windows Fax and Scan check box.
  3. Click OK.

Windows Server 2008 To create a fax server, you must install the Fax Server role. This installs the Fax Server role page, Fax Service Manager, Windows Fax and Scan (with faxing capabilities only), the Fax service, and the Fax printer.
  1. In Control Panel, under Programs, click Turn Windows features on or off.
  2. Right-click Roles, and then click Add Roles.
  3. In the Add Roles Wizard, under Select Server Roles, click Fax Server role.

Note If Print Services are not installed, you are prompted to install it.

  1. Click the users or groups that you want to send faxes.
  2. Click who you want to have access to the fax server inbox.

I am tryn to download software to install brother mfc 8220 fax printer copier scanner pc fax machine. and having trouble getting right software and loaction for it. using windows xp

Assuming you're in the USA, go to brother-usa.com's download page. Select the Multi-function family, then your specific model in the box that appears, then your operating system. Agree to the software license, and you'll get a page of drivers & stuff. If you have a fast Internet connection, go for the complete package.
There may also be a program to uninstall the drivers. If you've been trying to connect & use the machine, start by unplugging it from the computer and run that uninstall program. Windows often tries to install an almost-good-enough driver, and the real Brother drivers don't play with that.
Then run the setup program for the driver package you downloaded. It will tell you when it's time to plug in the printer. A computer reboot may be required when it's done. The installation program will tell you.

Trying to fax from windows XP Professional. Have

Have you downloaded and installed the device-driver software from HP's web-site (http://support.hp.com) for this specific all-in-one device? It may include software to cause "printing" from Windows to be routed to the FAX-interface on the all-in-one.

Problem in opening picture files

Its possible that you installed a graphic program that upon install it changed the extension of your picture files. An example would be photoshop, This program could change your JPG files to PSD format upon install.
You can download a software program that can convert your pictures from the PSD ext. to JPEG. Once such program is (Easy Graphic Converter), It is Free... Another excellent program is Graphic Workshop. I think that one is trial but it has a time limit.

If you don't want to go that route you can go into your file ext. settings and change it to where a jpg file will be opened with another program other than PhotoShop. This might solve your problem.

To get to this screen, you can go into ( My Documents ) click on ( tools) at the top on the menu bar. Then click on ( Folder Options ). From there click in ( File Types ). Then find your JPG ext.
and it will tell you what program opens your jpg files. If it says CS3, change it to something else like WIndows Picture and Fax Viewer or something else.

We have a windows vista computer and a game which we havent installed yet because we were wondering if it might damage the game or computer because on the minimum requirments it says that the computer must...

the worst that could happen is that the computer may not run the program. try installing the game, your cd (assuming that's the source of the setup files for the game) should not be affected.

after you install the program try to run it as usual by double clicking the icon to run the program if it doesn't run as expected try this.
1. right click the icon you use to run the game.
2. select properties
3. select the compatibility tab and select an appropiate mode. (ex. windows xp service pack 2)

not completely sure but you may also want to try to run the installation/setup program by changing the compatibility mode so you may be able to trick the program into believing the app/game is being installed on a windows xp service pack 2 system increasing your chances to have the installation running properly.

Hidden Program

In Windows 98 the MS fax client is installed as part of the windows messaging package and uses a mapi client like exchange client, outlook, or windows messaging to work. Try 'add/remove software' in the control panel and see if you can unistall windows messaging. If you have the win 98 install cd, there is a file called wmw-fax.txt in the tools/oldwin95/message/us folder. you might find the information in there.
