US DVDs are encoded region 1 (one). Other countries use different reason codes, to help prevent copyright piracy. Uncoded DVD's that will work everywhere are region 0 (zero).

There is a way to change the region code of your DVD player, but be forewarned- you are only allowed to change it twice... a third region change will permanently disable your DVD player. You need to check your manual to see how to do this, but my advice is to not change it and only buy DVD's that use your country region code.

Changing dvd region codes

You can't change the DVD coding. That part is how the DVD is recorded. However, your Mac will play DVDs from another region. It just typically defaults to one region. I have deleted the DVD player software (and preferences files) before and reloaded it to play DVDs from another region. If you plan to regularly play DVDs from multiple regions, you might want to look for special DVD software that will read DVDs from multiple regions.

Is there a region code magnavox dv220mw9a

Yes there is a region code built into the dv220mw9a depending on the region where the unit was sold. The version sold in the US will only read region 1 or All region DVDs.

Where was your DVD player purchased and what region code is on the DVDs? Please add a comment with more information on your problem.

Reads cd but not dvd

If this DVD drive does not read DVDs, the Region setting may not be configured for your DVDs.
To changethe Region code on your DVD player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware -Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVDdrive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have beenmade.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the4th change.
If you want to play DVDs from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmwareto make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrongfirmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece ofsoftware (Passkey for DVD) that allows you to play DVDs from any region andPasskey for Blu-ray that allows you to play Blu-rays from any region. There areseveral available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free From:-

I have been playing DVDs for the last two years on my DVD player w/o a problem. I am getting an invalid region message all of a sudden on movies I have played before. Is there a way to fix this? All of...

You were the one to post the question little earlier. A region error is a strange error to get for a malfunction. But in any case it will be a fault with the decoder board / laser in the dvd player. These usually don't have firmware updates and are rom based so re-programming is not an option. The region error may also be cloaking the real problem. The more likely problem is that the dvd's laser pickup has failed. The first thing it tries to get is the region code, so if it cannot read this maybe that is why it is throwing you this error. Try to clean the lens, i don’t give that much hope but it is the only remedy other than repair that i can offer.

WILL MY DVD PLAY AREA 1 AND AREAV4 DVD'S?

Hi camonk2004,

It's interesting that your DVD player was purchased in Russia but plays Region 1 DVDs. Region 1 is North America. Does your Player also play Russian DVDs (region 5)? If so, then it has probably been modified to play DVDs from multiple regions.

Check the back side of the DVD player - the rear panel should have a Region number on it. If the region number is 1, then try playing a Region 5 DVD. If it reads the DVD, then the modification that was done in Russia will probably allow it to read any DVD. IF the Region 5 DVD won't play (or if it is ejected automatically), then your player's region control os still intact, and it will only play DVDs from the same region as the one listed on the rear panel of the player (or DVDs marked "ALL").

I hope this helps - please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind Regards,
H2H

Mizuda dvd player wont read dvds

Hi,

A couple of things To try.

1:) The DVD Player May be Region encoded, can only play certain region Dvds. ** Try different Disks**

2:) The Disk May Be Dirty-Scratched ( Towards The Centre )
** Clean The Disk With A Soft Lint-Free Cloth**

3:) The Laser Head may have a speck of dust or debris on it.
** Try a Laser Cleaning CD**

Hope this works For You.
