Please would you explain to me what the holes, (eg. SmartMedia/*D) is used for on my new PC. Dumb, I know, but I'm old and never grew up with PC's. Now if it was the subject of Chemical Engineering, I could give you a lesson or two. Thanks for your time. Bill
The PC is a "Compaq Presario SR5340AN Desktop PC"
Hi Bill,
It,s a 15 in 1 Memory Card reader.

So that you can transfer Pictures et,c. From a digital Camera Or Similar. Directly to Your PC.
to view an inserted memory card. they usually appear as device letters, in my computer. If C:/ is the Hard-Disk. E:/ backup ( Partition Of Hard-disk ) F:/ DVD drive. Then G:/ H:/ I:/ would all be designated to the 15 in 1 card reader.

ATT is your high speed internet provider and they supply you with 2wire DSL modem which has alot of power supply adapter going bad (you can Google 2wire AC dapter problem).
You can buy your own DSL modem but the key is the setting it up, it depends on how your ATT DSL system is setup, DHCP, PPOe, etc. What ever you do I hope you do have the user name and password that you may need to setup the new modem.
To explain exactly how here will take many many words and pages to explain, and without knowing your exact setup, it will be real difficult.
ATT does not care if you use your own DSL modem but they will not help you setting it up.
I would suggest you to get someone at school that knows a lot about computer, may be aks your school IT person to see if he/she can help you for free pizza.
I hope my explanation will help you out.

6. Hit OK and exit.
The next step is to create a dialler for your Samsung Star 3G mobile modem.
Error 619 solved
1. To create a dialler, Goto Control Panel>Network Connections
2. Hit Create a New Connection and proceed as follows (each sub-point is for each screen of the wizard):
2.1 Network Connection Type: Connect to the Internet 2.2 How do you want to connect to the Internet: Set up my connection manually 2.3 Select Connect using a dial-up modem 2.4 Select Modem-Samsung Mobile Modem 2.5 Type an ISP name according to your preference (could be anything) 2.6 Type*99# as the phone number ( or type *99*1*1# or *99***1# ) 2.7 Leave Username, Password and Confirm Password fields blank 2.8 Hit Finish

2Use this open port to connect the old router to the new routers WAN(wide area network) port. If your old router has an uplink port, use this instead of the last LAN(local area network) port and keep the last LAN port open.
3Connect the computers to the ports on the new router.
4Configure the new router settings to match the old router settings.
5Use IPConfig to check you current IP address
6Use this information to create a static IP on the computers connected to your network.
7Set the Default Gateway to the IP address of the router in which the computer connects.
8Check that all computers can access the internet and "see" each other on the network.
Make sure your PC is sharing the internet connection with other networked machines. Right-click on the connection and then click on Properties. There should be a sharing tab where you can enable it.
bridge modem
The 2100 modem is a bridge modem only, it doesn't do either NAT or PPPoE. Don't worry what that means, just that it's good news. It is already a dumb plain pass-through, so you won't have to dumb it down so that it won't conflict with the router's functions. I am also going to make a wild guess here that you are in a part of the Verizon network that was GTE before it was bought by Verizon, and are not using PPPoE, but rather DHCP. If you were in an area that was BellAtlantic before Verizon that means you are on PPPoE and you have had your Verizon DSL for 3 or 4 years or longer (about then they started using the 2200 modem for PPPoE customers).
Configure your Windows XP PPPoE client as follows:
1) Go to Start >Control Panel >Network and Internet Connections.
2) Select Network Connections under the Pick a Control Panel icon.
3) Click Create a new connection under Network tasks.
4) Enter your area code in the location information (if asked), and click OK twice.
5) Click Next when the "Welcome to the new connection wizard" window displays.
6) Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.
7) Select Set up my connection manually and click Next.
8) Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password and click Next.
9) Type "DSL Modem? ( you can use your ISP Name here) for the ISP name, and click Next.
10) Enter your BellSouth username followed by "@ISP NAME (if required by your ISP)" and password. Confirm your password, and click Next.
11) Click Add shortcut to this connection to my desktop and the DSL Modem icon will be added to your desktop. Click Finish.
12) Click the DSL Modem icon to begin surfing.

Best of luck
OUR YOU TRY TO CONNECT BOTH LABTOPS TOGETHER TO TRANSFER THE INFORMATION.
THE CABLE MODEM HAS AWAY TO CONNECT TO THE NEW PC.
YOU NEED TO CONTACT YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER AND EXPLAIN YOU HAVE OLD CABLE MODEM AND YOU WANT TO UPGRADE TO THE NEW EQUIPMENT SETUP BUNDLE, THEY WILL SEND YOU A BOOK, CDROM OR DVD, THAT WILL TALK YOU THREW THE NEW PROCIDURES OF HOOKING UP THE NEW SYSTEM.
THE NEW AND OLD SYSTEMS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE IN ANY SINCE BECUASE THE WINDOWS VERSIONS, UPGRADES, SERVICE PACKS, WHAT THE SPEED IS, AND IF YOU HAVE 16BIT, OR 32BIT OR 64BIT SYSTEM, THERE ARE SOME 8BIT SYSTEMS BUT I HAVENT SEEN ONE IN A LONG TIME.
NOTHING.
turn off all equipments.
connected the modem to the incoming cable.
use the CAT-5 cable comes with unit, conencted from the one of LAN port to your PC LAN port on the rear panel. turn on the modem then turn on the PC.
you are good to go.
on the rear of the pc you may have 2 plug slots, one for the nodem and one for the lan (ethernet cable) modem port looks like this:
lan (ethernet ports) look like this:
you will notice that the modem is smaller that the ethernet port, look for port that the ethernet cable fits in because you have the right lead because your modem is cable not ADSL
