Feed Dog I got this sewing machine for Christmas, as a gift, and instead of the feed dog feeding the fabric forward it is pulling the fabric through from the back as it would if I were using the reverse button. When I use the reverse button it feeds the fabric through as it should from the front to the back. I've tried to find something in the manual to fix this problem and I cannot find anything. I really don't know what I should do in order to fix this problem. I'm new to this sewing stuff and i really feel dumb, that i cannot run this new machine.

I have the same problem but on an older machine that worked fine until a pin got stuck in the feed dogs.

Is it in the button hole setting? If so that could explain it.

Feed dog won't feed fabric singer touch and see 756

Hi,
On some of the singer touch an sew machines the feed dog has little rubber pads instead of metal teeth.
With age the pads come off.
A replacement feed dog can be had from SewingPartsOnLine.com for about ten dollars. http://sewingpartsonline.com/
I hope this helps, I have changed quite a few.

Singer model 518....the material won't feed through. It wants to sew but won't feed cloth through. Thks

Be sure you have the stitch length set high enough that the fabric will actually move instead of sewing mostly in one spot.

One other thing to check is the presser foot applying enough pressure to the fabric so that the feed dogs can grab the fabric? On the top left side of the machine, there is probably either a dial or a push-type button. That would most likely be the pressure adjustment. The tighter that is set, the harder the pressure the presser foot will apply and the more the feed dogs will grab the fabric.

Check that the feed dogs are in the "up" position so they will pull the fabric through the machine. Are the feed dogs actually moving forward, raising above the needle plate, pulling toward the back of the machine, and then dropping below the needleplate before moving forward again? If not, then the problem could be with the feed dogs.

Your machine appears to be a mechanical model. If so, it could be the machine needs a good over-all cleaning and oiling--a couple drops of fresh, good quality sewing machine oil every place that metal rubs on metal (no plastic parts, belts...). Feed dogs are frequently affected when the sewing machine does not receive regular maintenance.

Material won't move? How to adjust feed dog if that is the problem

Is the feed dog raised into sewing position and not dropped as for darning? Feed dogs need to be in the raised position in order to pull the fabric through the machine.

If the stitch length is set too short, it will cause the fabric to barely move thereby causing the machine to stitch in one place.

Raise your presser foot and gently rotate the handwheel and watch the feed dogs. Do they rise when coming to the front of the machine, move toward the back of the machine, drop down below the needle plate, and move forward to the front of the machine again? If so, the feed dogs are working properly.

If the feed dogs never rise, they are in the dropped position for darning or free motion quilting when you would move the fabric manually.

If, on the other hand, the feed dogs do not move at all, then they are seized and you should probably get your machine serviced.

Brother CS6000i with setting 00 for straight line stitch is making a left curve stitches instead going straight.

***Your feed dog under the pressure foot seems to be pulling on one side a little harder which indicates wear. It is likely to solve the problem by replacing the feed dog.
***Before you do this try to lower the pressure on the pressure foot. If the material you are sewing is thick it will have an effect on the pull of the feed dogs. The material you are sewing that you sent appears to be jeans material. It looks like it is thick and somewhat slippery.

Kenmore model 17821

if you have a instruction manual for the machine, then check to find out where the feed dog lever is, and check to see if the feed dog is in the up position to sew or in the down position, if the feed dog lever is in the up position and will not feed the fabric, then the machine need to be check to see what's wrong with the feed dogs.

Problem with brother vx-1120 will not feed fabric

This is usually caused by the feed-dog ( the metal teeth in the area below the needle) being down instead of up - run your finger under there (over the teeth) if they do not stick up above the base line of the machine, they cannot feed the fabric. If this is the case, look in your manual (or and online manual for your machine) and find out how to put the feed dog up. Other than this, some machines have a plastic plate which fits over the feed dog, so that you can do free machine embroidery, if this is the case, you should be able to remove this and the fabric will feed through

Feet not feeding and thread bunching up

the presser foot or what ever foot your sewing with does not feed the
fabric,, the feed dogs in the needle plate are what moves the fabric
to be sewed, the feet only hold the fabric against feed dog so the
machine can use the needle to sew the fabric.
if the fabric is not moving then the feed dogs have to be checked
can you see the feed dogs in the needle plate area are the up or
down?
do you have a manual for the machine?
a manual help to know where the feed dog lever is, I'm sending
you a link for a manual for the machine, so you can look for the feed
dog lever, if the feed dogs are up then there is something wrong
with the feed dogs & they need to be checked.
but if the feed dogs are down then look in the manual & see where
the feed dog lever is & put it in the up position & see if that brings
the feed dogs up to the sewing position, if the feed dogs do not
come up then the feed dogs need to be checked.

Feed dogs are not pulling the material back

White sewing machine model 510, feed dog problem; fabric is not moving; I must firmly pull fabric through.

The feed dog is moving; fabric is not.

The fabric is not feeding properly; the fabric goes back and forth. However, the fabric does not continue to move away from me.

The feed dog is positioned up and is not smooth, it feels rough when I touch it with my fingers.

Because I had not used this sewing machine for a couple of years, before sewing, I cleaned the inside with the wire brush that came with the machine.

In an attempt to trouble shoot the problem, I applied varying pressure foot levels and stitch lengths.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem?
