Try a hard reset. Make sure all the cables are plugged in the drive. Simply shut down the computer then unplug from the wall. Push in the power button until it flashes then plug it back in again and restart the computer this will reset everything to default startup. Also if this does not work then go into the BIOS and set computer to default settings that are failsafe. If this does not work click on F8 go into the safe mode and see if the hard drive is there.

If not go and turn off the machine then open the box and pull the drives cable and power supply restart the machine then shut it down again and plug the drive back in with the computer off and hook the power supply cable back up. Plug the computer back in and restart if you get a blue screen at the start your drive is most likely faulty and you will need to do another re-install. If that does not work then the drive is faulty and needs to be replaced. I hope this assisted you, thanks for using FixYa for your questions. Be sure to comment on my fix if you fell like it. John

After install window not show may hard drive

Right-Click "Computer", Manage, Storage/Disk Management. What you see here is what you have, or at least what Windows thinks is connected. If you have a missing hard drive, check your hard drive connections.

I just bought a Dell Back-up plus 1 TB hard disk . when i plug in the USB cable it does not show up on My computer but it shows on "Device manager" and "computer management" .. so i cannot use it as a...

The only thing that I can think of is that you need to go into computer management and click on the "disk management" sub-heading under storage. From there all of the hard drives in the computer should show up. Find the new hard drive in the list and right click on the part where is say Disk 1 or Disk 2 or which ever disk is the correct one (it should be around 930gb or so). Then select initialize disk, and follow the wizard through the choices to setup the disk as a basic hard drive. After the disk is initialized you need to format it and then you should be access the drive in my computer.

My pc not recognize my passport essential hard disk

Try going to Disk Management and see if they show up there.

  1. Click Start
  2. Right Click My Computer
  3. Click Manage
  4. Click Disk Management
If your computer is recognizing a mass storage device they should show up in disk management and you can just assign them a drive letter.

Hard disk recognised but not show up in my computer

Check the BIOS configuration to see if it deects the hard drive.
When you boot up the Samsung, does the hard drive spin up, if it does not spin up or makes a clicking sound the the hard drive is faulty.
To get your laptop operating again, replace the hard disk and install Windows on the new hard disk.

Hard disk formetting

hi,

I think low level formatting should do the trick. you can download it and its free. In your case try to download the DOS based version. This type of formatting erases the entire disk clean.

Maxtor 200 gb external will not show up in my computer after numerous installs

For Vista you don't need any driver for this, it should recognize and install automatically.
Did you check the device manager to see if the disk is recognized in the device list?

Next step is to check the Disk Manager (right-click My Computer, select Manage and then select disk management), and see if the disk already has a partition and has been formatted. If not, then it will not show up in "My Computer" with a drive letter yet.

Some details on external hard disk troubleshooting might also help.

My slave hard disk is not showing in my computer

Is it formatted ? Does it have a drive letter associated to it? If not then either format it (right click on My computer -> click Manage -> click Disk Management. Now right click the drive if it is showing there and either create partitions and/or format it if it not already formatted.

If it's already formatted, and you just need to assign a drive letter, then in Disk Management, right click the drive and click Change Drive Letter and Paths and assign an unused drive letter, say Z.

Close Computer Management and open My Computer. The new drive should show up now.
