Convergence problem? In reading someone elses post it sounds like I need to replace either the STKs or the Sub Assembly board. I appear to have a convergence problem with the TV all the tubes have been replaced in the last 18 months, so I would figure it is a tube that is out. I just can get the colors to line up. Auto focus didn;t work either. Someone had mentioned to also check the low value / fuse resistors found near the STKs area. This is all chinese to me as I donlt know what any of those things are. Is there a way to get the part numbers of what I need and then have someone talk me through it? I have called around to repair people in my area and they sat it could cost over $500, however from what I see online I could buy parts for less than $200, I just don't know what to buy or how to go about installing them.

It sounds more like you need a new convergence board which is about 88.00.its not that hard to install and should be easy to order. all you have to do is look up the part number of your tv and go from there

I have a HCL473W with a 'concave' screen effect on 2 colors??

You don't need to replace the whole board, regardless of which board it may be mounted on. The STK IC convergence chips alone are all that need to be replaced. You can order them from a number of different online sites. You can try Alibaba.com. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Convergence problem, wavey at bottom some color distortion

Common problem on rear projection TVs. Either replace the convergence correction board or repair it. Usually a job for a technician or at least someone familiar with electronics. The fix is to replace the STKs and probably a couple of resistors. Can provide more info if needed.

Convergence problem suspect on sam hcm422w

Check this link for the parts: http://www.electronic-repair-kits.com/STK392-040.htm
If you DIY, I would suggest to check the low value/fuse resistors found near the STKs area.
Good Luck.

Tv wouldn't turn on, unplugged convergence board, turned on, replaced STKs, still have convergence problem

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Hitachi 53uwx10b template

Hi, first what exactly are you looking for? the convergence board of the STKs number? If you have convergence problem, you will need to change the STKs for sure and check the resistence to the STKs and generally all of them have same low value. check it out and replace the faulty onces. switch on and adjust convergence and you have a good working picture on the screen. No picture, but red light on front comes on

If one your convergence IC's is bad then you will still see a picture but the colors will not line up, especially around the edges. I have never seen a Toshiba projection set completely lose the picture because of a defective convergence IC. If your vertical output IC has failed or cracked loose then that is exactly what you will see - no picture! The vertical output IC is usually on the same board as the convergence outputs which explains why it worked last time, even if the tech was not 100 percent accurate in knowing exactly what was wrong - he just changed everything. Resolder that vertical output IC and make sure it is getting power. If you still have no picture after that then have a qualified tech look at the set.
