I traded my old playstation in for a modded on in Iraq it worked fine there and when I got it home the picture scrolls from bottom to top and is black and white but it is reading the discs can you tell me what the problem is so I can fix it oh yea thought it was because it was pal so I bought a converter and still the same thing
The PlayStation 2, like the original PlayStation, incorporates circuitry to prevent the playing of copied or out-of-region discs and programs produced by people who are not paying percentage to the Sony Corporation (unlicensed games etc.). User response to this - grey market for modchips. PS2 Mod-Chips when installed, bypass the checks and allow the copied CD-R and DVD-R backup discs to run.
Obviously the installation of mod-chips in PlayStation 2 consoles is widely discouraged by Sony -- the reason is piracy. You must know that Sony has overlaid a seal onto each of their PS2 consoles. If this seal is broken (thus providing evidence that the console has been opened and "modded"), Sony will refuse to repair the system. On the other hand if your console is more than one yer old and no longer covered by the manufacturer warranty you should not worry about fraking the seal -- it will not change anything.
It can be done spending around few $15 to $20 i guess.
I own a PS2 which is modded before a year and still it works with out any trouble. You can ask if u have any questions about PS2.
Thank you,
