I have replaced 2x256 RAM chips by 2x512 chips in my HP Pavilion 752n running Windows XP SP2. My computer does not boot after the installation. Weirdly enough I get 6 beeps when I turn on my desktop, and nothing happens after that except my computer fan runs endlessly. Are there any know known issues or suggestions while replacing RAM chips? Can someone advise?

I need to know the brands and models of your ram's, take all the text from the old chips and write them here, also from the new chips, and write them here.

I'll know more once you've done that.

As for the beeping, remove all the ram from the machine, and power on, it should complain, turn off, unplug, install ONE of the old memories back in and try starting up, what happens?

OK ..this is an issue with the ram memory ..and the first thing to do is to remove the BIOS battery for a few seconds and after that insert it back ...Also check again the ram modules and press them in the slot firmly ..cause usually this is happening when one is not recognized or faulty ..an it can be cause you damaged it during the installing ..or cause it is not proper inserted..
Like I said ..after checking all this..remove the BIOS battery ..place it back ..and restart ..This will erase the cmos settings ..and make it recognize the new memory ...if it is functional ..
If all OK ..it will ask to press F1 to get into bios settings and set the time and the date ..but it is easier to just ..get in there and press F10 to save them all like they are ..and deal with the settings in windows..
If this will not make it work ..remove the memory modules one at the time ..and try to boot with one single one ...and this way you will identify the one that makes problems ..
If non of them will boot the computer ..it means that you have bought a wrong frequency ..and it is not supported...In this case either change it ..or update bios ..to make the new frequency supported..
I mean usually older computers supports for DDR@ for example up to 533 ...but all you find on the market these days for ddr2 are from 800 up ..and things like that ..
You should folow the manual when upgrade this thing s..
BUT if it is Ddr1 it should not be a problem cause they usually all 3 frequencies work in the slot ..

By the way ..If you have more than 2 slots ..and you find one faulty ..you could use the other 2 ..and still make 1G for to run it ..when you will place them you should also remove the bios battery for to make them be seen by the common frequency ..of all..

This problem occurs because of frequency incompatible between RAM.
For that you need to install same frequency RAM .
Also try with only 1 RAM make sure both RAM is working fine.
Try different RAM slot if 1slot or RAM is not working then also this problem occurs.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

I wanted to upgrade the memory on my pavilion zt1130 notebook from 256mb so I purchased to 512mb memory cards and replace the resident memroy under the keyboard. It runs faster but as soon as I put the...

According to Hp website your computer will handle two 512 Mb RAM chips. Make sure they are PC133. If computer will not boot with both inserted properly, one of them is bad. Put one in slot 1 and none in slot 2 and see if it boots. Then switch the chips put the extra chip in slot 1 and none in slot 2. See if it boots. This way you can troubleshoot a possible bad chip.

If you have tried another monitor and result is the same, then it's a faulty graphics card.
If graphics card is sharing system memory, then you might need to replace ram to get it work again.

I have an HP Pavilion 752n Win XP SP3 with ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4G-LA REV 1.xx motherboard. I am currently running 1.2 GB of memory. I would like to replace the 256MB memory card with another 1GB memory...

The motherboard can support 1GB of memory, Window XP can manage up to 2GB fairly good maybe more with other setting applied. I would recommend using two 512 memory chips to fill the slots to prevent any memory conflict issues.

I have a compaq with a 90 gig hard drive, at presenr I am running 384 bytes of RAM. How much will this PC safely handle?

Depends! The amount of RAM has nothing to do with capacity of the hard drive. If your motherboard is a P3, it probably has to memory slots that will handle 256mb each (512 total). It sounds like you have a 128mm chip and a 256mb chip installed now. I won't even attempt to run XP with less than 256mb of RAM. You can run XP with 128mb, but not very well. With Windows XP SP2, you will have to have at least 256MB. Most P4 or newer computers use DDR RAM wich can be bought at larger capacity (ie 1000MB).
