Hello i have a dell inspiron b120 and it is locked with a authentication password i got it at a yard sale and cant use it will u please help me use my computer thank you

Hi,

For security reason, my suggestion is to go back to where you purchase it, and have the original owner disable the password. For Dell, they will suggest to fill up the transfer of Ownership and this will take time as they need to check for any reports specially for theft. Ask also the owner for the recovery disc and you can try to reinstall the operating system.

here is the link for ownership transfer.

Hope this will help you.

My battery is jst plugged in ,its not charging...there is some problem with laptop pins so its hard to connect adapter with laptop..yet i hve purchase it 6 months before...

Hello
If the pins are bent or out of place on the adapter you will need to buy another adaptor.

If you bought this laptop new 6 months ago the store or manufacture warranty should still be good.

I got a dell 6400 @ a garrage sale and it has a bios password,i need to clear it but i am not sure how to

BIOS passwords are usually set by IT departments and are intended for system security.

There are only 2 ways to fix this.

Get the password if purchased legitimately or replace the system board for $300-400 from Dell. There is no other way to bypass.

Hello, I need a Master Password for a Dell 1525

If you have forgotten your BIOS or Hard Drive Password for this model, there is a master code that you can obtain from Dell Support. Simply call, Email, or use Online Chat from http://support.dell.com and give them your Service Tag, and they can help you out from there. If it is a Windows profile password you have forgotten, try accessing the Administrator account from Safe Mode (Press F8 at Startup), and remove the password for the user account from Control Panel, User Accounts.

Removing the CMOS battery will not reset the bios password. The bios password on this system (like most modern laptops) is stored on a security chip. You can search for a generic password but Dell only used generic passwords on its older laptops, newer laptops get a unique password in which a program uses the Service Tag and a serial # to generate. Also this laptop has no password jumper.

The best way to remove it would be to contact Dell Tech Support, verify ownership, and they will provide you with a password. If you just purchased the system used, you will need to fill out a transfer of ownership (http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/change_order/tag_transfer?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=1&s=gen), Even if the hardware contract has expired they will still provide the password. The only reason they will not provide the password is if the system has been reported as stolen.

Dell Laptop Trouble

hI,

Dell Laptops are built to retail the BIOS passwords in a EEPROM, so
removing batteries will not help you in removing the password. Since
Dell only sells direct, and not through retail stores, they can take
the additional security measure for their owners to protect their
information if the computers are stolen. If a Dell Laptop is stolen
and the owner has properly set the BIOS passwords, the only thing the
thief can now do is to try to sell it as parts, or to pawn it off on
some ****** who doesn't check for BIOS passwords first. Dell does
recognize ownership transfers as I have gotten the ownership of a
system transferred to me, as well as transferring ownership of some
of my older systems to their new owners.

If you are willing to search around theinternet, you will find lots
of people willing to sell you a service of removing the password for
you. You can find people willing to sell you a new EEPROM chip
without a password telling you that soldering this new chip on the
system board is the solution to your problem. I have even seen one
site that claims to give you the instructions on how to remove the
password yourself.

Before you put too much effort into this, you might consider checking
with Dell, and/or your local police station to see if the system has
been reported stolen. If it has, then the store you bought it from
might be able to help the police to catch the thief before he steals
another laptop, who knows, maybe the next one he steals might be
yours.

If you forget any of your passwords, call Dell. For your protection, Dell's technical support staff will ask youfor proof of your identity to make sure that an unauthorizedperson is not trying to use the computer.

Thanks

If all you need is to register ownership into your name follow the link bellow and it will take you to Dell's ownership transfer page. If you have another issue with the machine get back to me and I'll see what I can do.

DELL BIOS password is unknown for DEL C400

Dell keeps a master code for each of their machines. All you have to do is transfer ownership of the machine into your name, if it isn't already, and give tech support a call, and they'll give you the code over the phone. You can transfer ownership at Dell's support site, there a subcategory on the left of the screen that reads "ownership transfer". Here's a link for the tech support number.
