Colored lines at top and bottom when tv comes on and seeing double vision in different colors at all times

If your tv is not a DLP the problem is in the convergence, try to adjust it using your original remote control go to the setting menu then to the convergence section. Adjust the red and blue convergence. you should move the red and the blue in up, down and left, right if this color does not move far enough your convergence IC is already defective. Replacing this convergence IC will solve the problem. In locating this convergence IC you should remove the back cover of your unit but be sure to unplug it before doing this. This convergence IC is attached to a large aluminum plate, it is the heat sink, and it has a marking of stk- ### followed by numbers. You can try to pull it out using a soldering iron and soldering pump but be careful you may damage the board and cause much problem to your unit. Or you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards.

50H13 Red Convergence Problem

I do wish people like troylove11 would stop giving advice on things they obviously know very little about. The Toshiba projection sets never have loose connections on the convergence IC's, and there are never bad resistors in those sets. There is no separate convergence board and there are no adjustments on any boards. The convergence adjustments are done electronically, through the remote in the service mode. Also, moving or bumping a projection set cannot cause a solder joint to crack loose. Your set has 2 large convergence IC's and one of them has burned out. This is very common in projection sets. Do not attempt to enter the service mode to make adjustments, because you will only be messing up the correct settings and when the new IC is installed, the colors will still be way out of alignment. Replacing a convergence IC is a very simple thing for an experienced tech, and it is well worth getting the set fixed. If your set uses the STK392-010 IC's, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and replace both IC's with the newer, upgraded STK392-150 IC's. If you have not changed the convergence settings, the picture will return to normal once the IC is replaced and very little realignment will be necessary. When I do a housecall for a set like that it takes about an hour and a half and I charge $150, but shops in your area will vary so ask around.

My blue will not adjust up and down. It will adjust sideways. I try to converge my tv, the red is working properly but the blue will not adjust vertically. It will only adjust horizontal.

The model indicated uses a single STK-393-110 CONVERGENCE OUTPUT IC. The chip is most likely the problem(98%) and I know as I have changed hundreds of them.

The part is about 14 dollars from a seller I use on EBAY.

I also have start to finish, step by step instructions for doing this repair in this model.

They tell you everything you will need and how do do the repair.

The repair involves getting the center circuit board out of the set and replacing the IC and examining some blue resistors in front of it to make sure none opened.

Let me know by responding to this post and I can either post the instructions here or email?

JVC AV-48WP30 convergence drifting after IC replacement

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

My panasonic pt-53wx42f has blue lines what can i do?

If you cannot move a certain color, red or blue then you may have more going on than just an adjustment.

What you might be experiencing based on your symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

With any Projection Television that has a damaged convergence IC, you do not want to continue the use of the set. If the IC’s continue to fail they will cause a short in the power supply and cause your television to not power up, and possibly damage the CRT’s in the set.

With that aside I have some support suggestions that I have put together that may help you make an informed decision.

You should be able to get a local service center to repair this at your house for between $350.00 - $450.00, If you want to repair this set yourself, I have some instructions below that will be a help to you.
While it is not a very hard repair, this repair can be a bit tricky. If you have a 45W soldering iron, solder, solder wick, and heat sink compound you can repair it yourself.

When you remove the old IC's, please be sure to remove all of the old heat sink compound, as it can act as an insulation for the new IC's and cause them to overheat. I usually clean the heat sinks with alcohol and a small rag.

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. Some of the newer sets only have one. If you only have one, it is right in the middle of the set on the center circuit board. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110.

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is
http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can also try
http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , I have not tried them yet, but they do carry OEM or better parts.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
If you need further assistance please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.

I have attached some photos of really bad convergence problems; your picture may not be exactly as bad as these.

SAMSUNG Convergence Problem

It looks like blue convergence. Look at menu, select convergence and see if blue top is bent down on convergence adjust screen. Probably won’t adjust.

Some Samsungs have convergence IC’s on a separate convergence board in the back of the TV. Others have the IC’s mounted on the main deflection board. Either way the board has to be removed to get at the dud IC’s and associated burnt resistors.

You remove the appropriate board, determine if any resistors are burnt or damaged, replace any burnt or out of tolerance resistors, replace 1 or 2 IC's and re-install the board.

Now you have to adjust it to look like new.

If the unit has not been misadjusted and everything is OK now, running the auto focus may put the picture back to it’s previous stunning quality as it was before IC failed.

If after Perfect Focus it is still misadjusted noticeably, try the customer convergence adjustments. Operators’ manuals are available on web through searching.

If convergence can not be adjusted properly, you messed up chip install or resistors may be wrong value or open; or it needs major adjustment.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me instead:

Or try to the find the repairperson part of this website (on the Homepage) and search postal code. Maybe you will be lucky and someone from your area is listed for Projection TV repair.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful. They will pay double for someone to fix their mess or end up scrapping the TV. It is not a simple task. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

Good Luck

Hitachi 53uwx10ba rear pro

Set needs convergence ic's changed (STK392-110). Also look for resistors slightly discolored around STKs, usually low value like 1.5 ohm, 2.7 and 3.3 If you have an ohm meter and a soldering iron, solder and solder wick, you can attempt this yourself. Remove rear cover of set. Mark and unplug connectors from convergence board, including small jumpers that interconnect boards. Remove board, turn over and unsolder pins of conv. ic's using solder wick. Unscrew mounting screws and pull chips out. Careful, white heatsink compound is messy. Apply new compound to new chips if needed, making sure not to bend small pins. Slide chips in and screw in mounting screws. Flip board and solder in ic's making sure all pins came through. Check for small resistors around ic's being discolored,(usually 1.5 ohm) These are critical and a few tenths of an ohm change will cause extra alignments needed. Replug and secure board. Double check that all connectors are in place and power up unit. If you changed any mechanical adjustments to tubes or lenses, change them back now and try auto convergence. Service adjustment procedures are avail. online if needed. Good luck!
