Have a magnavox 31mf231d power board issue, replaced all caps. Had 1 obvious bad (2074). when powering up I get good power light, backlights come on, but only get gray screen. no menu, no controls. Also have a toshiba doing the same thing. I suspect that the tconn is not getting power. Is there a switch that may have been overloaded from bad cap. Looks like 7073 may be a transistor of some sort and appears to be in this circuit. Any suggestions?

No its not the t-con. The t-con is only responsible for displaying an image. It will not affect the sound. Since you have no sound either you should shift your diagnosis to main audio/video board. You do not have to turn on any switch manually. The relays will turn themselves on if everything is perfect.

It depends. There is a micro-processor IC on it that is irreplaceable. As for your model number I do not remember seesing a 31MF231D. If its a 32MF231D, I have a comprehensive service manual that I can give you. It should make your job a lot easier. Ofcourse I will guide you if you need something. So the first thing you should check is the model number. A google search for your model returns hardly any results.

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2010

Thats not necessary. I will just upload it to mediafire and get you the link.

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2010

Oh, so you haven't checked all the caps? Yes that seems to be the problem. You have got the service manual now, there's a detailed schematic in it. Check the voltages and see if any of them are missing. As for the diode, you can just check if its shorted.

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2010

Ok. I do not advice replacing the diode with an inductor though. As you may know the diode will not allow the current to flow in reverse bias mode, where as an inductor has no such thing. Its just a temporary solution, I would say.

You are welcome. If you do get stuck somewhere. Let me know and I will see you through it.

On which board and which component?

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2010

Oh. Thats the one going to the inverter. I forgot to ask you do you have sound?

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2010

Well thats a tricky situation. What do you wanna do, try and replace the power board?

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2010

Well lets continue the diagnosis. Its a tricky situation. I do not want to take a chance and tell you to replace the wrong board. Reading page 70 I have seen that pin 6 has not function. Also by gray screen do you mean that the backlight is lit?

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2010

Oj. Just seen it and it confirms that its a power board issue. So I think you can go ahead and replace the power board.

  • Anonymous Nov 11, 2010

    Sure thing.

My vizio Model SV470M will not turn on the power indicator light is not on either.

First, are you capable to open and repair this?
Being a power issue, we work "out to in". Plugged in wall and Power is not out in the neighborhood are too obvious to ask. Sooo... next .. Once back cover is off, look for and test the fuse on the PSU (power board), also look at this PSU board and see if any caps (capacitors) are bulged or popped. Both of these will kill a board, and usually caused by cheap caps or power surges from the power grid. You can replace the fuse easy enough, but you need good soldering skills to do the caps, and a supplier for the new caps. REPLACE ALL CAPS, not just the obvious bad ones. Otherwise, replace the whole board. Since you mentioned a "No Power" issue, this should fix it. Transformers are not too easy to test, (trans may be "browned" IE: burnt) and chips.. forget it, for both, replace the board. Hope this helps

LCD TV won't turn on- power light flashing

This is a very common symptom of a failure in the power supply board. The failure is caused by parts called capacitors. Here is a link to information on what needs to be replace on the power supply board to repair it. It is an easy repair, takes about 20 minutes.

I have a Magnavox 37MF32id137 we turned the tv off on the front went back about 25 min. later and it would not turn back on there is a dim green light flashing but has not turned back on in the last 24...

You have a bad Capacitor. Look for a bulge on this cap. Location is 2074 and it is a 25volt 2200MF cap gone bad! And there may be another very close by that may also need replaced...you will see it ,and is bulged or skinned

Maganovox 37'' power button not lighting up anymore.

Set your volt meter to the diode check and measure across the white fuse [power off and unplugged],Shuld read zero. Then the fuse is good, an open fuse will have no reading. If you replaced the caps....be sure the voltage is the same or greater. The Mfs must be the same...and most importantly be sure they are 105dgrees. In some cases they could be 125 degrees. If you replaced them with 85 degrees you will definitly not get a good start up. And always be sure you check the polarity on the caps to the board. The board should show a plus or minus. The long leg on a new cap is always positive. Locations for the caps I believe are2074 which is 25volt 2200Mf and cap 2081 is 35volt 1200Mf and a third cap 2066 at 16volt 10Mf. Be very careful with cap 2066 as the trace on the board can be damaged when you unsolder this! Good Luck!

When you turn on the tv the green power light flashes and so does the tv screen

I had the same problem, it was fixed under an extended warrantee, caps on the power supply were bad, number 2074, they replaced it and another one on the same board.
Tv has been back and running fine for 2 months now, if you google Magnavox and blinking green power light you should be able to find a ton of hits on the same subject and many have repaired these tvs by themselves. Good luck, another solution is to order a new power supply, they run abut $150, if you can find one.

Need to get a schematic of the power board in a MAG 37MF231D part# 31381036294.3 for T/S purposes. New board just to expensive.

Replace cap location 2074 which is 25 volt 2200Mf and cap location 2081 which is 35 volt 1200Mf. You can visually see these when you remove the back...Good Luck! PS...be sure they are rated at 105 degrees!!!!

Red blinking light on a Magnavox Plasma TV

Here is the solution. For less that 100$ your Magnavox Plasma TV. Model # 50MF2310/37 will be running like a champ.

Issue:

Magnavox Plasma TV. Model # 50MF2310/37 screen has no picture. There is no sound, TV comes on and then after a few seconds clicks and screen remains blank.

Cause:

On the main power circuit board to Capacitors are prone to failure from over load. The caps are 3300uf 10v 105+c capacitors located to the left of the AC power input.

Service:

Magnavox will refer you to a service center. They will advise $$$ for an inspection. They will also want to charge upwards of 500$ to replace the entire board.

Solution:

1. Unplug your TV
2. Disconnect all connections from your TV
3. With assistance lay your TV on its face on a non-scratching service
4. Remove the back panel screws.
5. Lift back panel off
6. The central board is your main power board.
7. Remove all wire harnesses from the main board.
8. Remove all screws that are holding the main board in place.
9. Lift the main board out and carefully place it into a non electromagnetic pouch.
10. Take the board to a Circuit Board repair shop.
11. Have them replace the the above mentioned Caps.
12. Re-install the board in your TV.

NOTE: Replace the caps with 3300uf 16v 105+ high temp caps(preferrably Japanese caps)

This fix cost me 80$ and my time to search for other who had the same issue. Try searching for Magnavox Plasma TV. Model # 50MF2310/37 bad circuit board or Magnavox Plasma TV bad capacitors or Magnavox Plasma TV bad ciruit board.

Hope this all help, Magnavox is should take ownership for this problem and recall any tv's that have these caps in them. The worst part about this is that teh **** from the repair center that was paid 100$ to check the TV, stripped out the screw holes and damaged the case for the TV.

Portland Laptop Repair was awesome. They repaired the board and it looked like new. Check them out at http://www.laptopportland.com/

Magnavox Plasma HDTV Red light

I had a similar problem with my magnavox tv with the blinking light issue. Eventually it just didn't come one anymore. Looking at other forms they said the problem was a bad capacitor number 2074 located on the power supply board. When I opened my tv, I noticed that the capacitor was bulging and burnt up. I bought a new one labeled 2200uf 35v and did some solder to attach the new piece. Put the tv back together and it works like new. No more blinking light. I hope this helps.
