I have a linksys befw11s4 that has never been locked. I would like to lock it - however when I type in the address 192.168.1.1. there is no longer a direct route to the Linksys page to change the password.

Turn over router and check in the bottom default access IP address and then type that IP address in to your browser. Then it shall ask you for ID and password. Enter `Admin` or `admin` as ID and `Password` or `password` as password. You will see a web based setup opened in front of you. Go to the Wireless Lan settings and then you will SSID so change the SSID and this would be your network`s name. Then go to subsection security and select WPA2-PSK or simple WPA-PSK then enter your desired network key. Once done with all these things the click apply and reboot if prompted.

type 192.168.1.1 into your browser and hit enter. This will take you to your router page.
If you have never been to this page before this is a list of defualt passwords to enter your page.
Linksys BEFW11S4, WRT54G: admin

From here you can set your own wireless security mode and generate a passphrase or key to lock out intruders.

The address is 192.168.1.1. The default for Linksys is to leave the user name blank and type in "admin" for the password. Don't type the quote marks. That will put you in the setup screen. The screen looks a little different from most tabbed screens. About the 3rd row down starting with "Setup" are the tabs. The next line is the sub-tabs; the subtab row changes as you select different tabs.

Use a internal Ip address of 10.10.10.1.

access your router with ip.
open internet explorer if your defualt router ip is :192.168.0.1 type this http://192.168.0.1 in addres bar in IE. then neter username admin and password aslo admin
if not accepr blnk user name and passowrd is admin.

then go to ssytem then set ip and follow the procedure.

You need to access the router setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of a computer that is working with the router , then it will be asking you for a username and password , just leave the username blank and password is admin, then on the linksys page just go to status there you can see the firmware version....

It could be a software problem, you can try updating the software or it's firmware.

Try opening internet explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. After you do this it should prompt you for a username and password. If it does leave the username field blank and type in admin for the password. This will connect you to the router. If you typed that address in and did not recieve the prompt recheck the wires. Make sure your computer is connected to ports 1,2,3 or 4. Here is a link to the linksys website that has diagrams for this router:

Hi, the BEFW11s4 sometimes is just a plug and play router. If your internet is working when your pc is connected to the modem, just do this steps.

1:Lets reset the BEFW11s4. with the power on, push the reset button at the back of the router for 30seconds, unplug the power of the BEFW11s4 for 10 seconds.

2:Disconnect the pc from your Comcast modem. Connect the ethernet cable from your modem to the INTERNET PORT of the BEFW11s4. Connect the pc to the BEFW11s4. NOTE; MAKE SURE THE PHYSICAL CONNECTION IS CORRECT.

3.Open INTERNET EXPLORER. ONLINE OR NOT?

A. IF ONLINE, clear the address field then type 192.168.1.1, if it ask you for a username and password, then we are ok. THE ROUTER IS ALREADY WORKING.

B. IF NOT ONLINE, TURN OFF PC, TURN OFF BEFW11S4, TURN OFF THE COMCAST MODEM. WAIT FOR 3 MINUTES

TURN ON MODEM, WAIT FOR 3 MINUTES, TURN ON BEFW11s4, WAIT FOR 3 MINUTES, TURN ON COMPUTER

IF STILL NOT ONLINE. Open internet explorer, type on the address field 192.168.1.1, username(nothing, as in blank), password(admin), click ok.

It will take you to the Linksys configuration page(Purple and white screen. On the screen you can see tabs

SETUP WIRELESS APPLICATIONS AND GAMING
MAC CLONE

CLICK THE MAC CLONE TAB, then click on Clone or Clone your pc mac, the save settings at the buttom. After this try the internet. If still offline, unplug the power of the BEFW11s4 for 10 seconds, try the internet again. It should be working now.

If still offline, do STEP 3B AGAIN. IT SHOULD BE WORKING ALREADY. IF THIS DOES NOT WORK, you really have to buy a new router.

I have solved this exact problem more than a thousand times. It always work if the router is still ok.

Download the TFTP---set up file for BEFSR41 v2 and also download the latest firmware of ur router.
Double click on the TFTP file and connect to the router using the default gateway address (192.168.1.1_ and upload the latest firmware....before that do a hard reset for the router foe one minute.
