Use External Monitor for Lenovo Old laptop

Choosing your monitor is more of a personal taste and budget then anything when using one as an external monitor to a laptop. Only issues you might run into if finding the correct resolution to match up to the monitor. This could require a driver update to allow higher resolutions for the monitor to take advantage of its larger size. Max resolution for your laptop is 1280x800 if equiped with the intel 4500 graphic chipset. Also from a quick lookup of your laptop it shows you have a HDMI output along with the standard VGA. Using the HDMI output with a monitor with HDMI input will give you the best picture quality plus HDMI cables are plentiful and a wide range of lengths are available..

How do i fix if my computer scan is out of range

I am assuming you are talking about your monitor. What this message means is that your monitor can't handle the resolution your video card is set to. Re-start your computer and as soon as the first screen goes by (you know the one with all numbers and stuff) start hitting the F8 key. This will start the computer in safe mode which uses a very low resolution (usually 640 x 480). Once you see the display set the resolution to 800x600 which any display can handle. Re-boot and log in again and change the resolution to something higher. Test different settings. If you set one that is too high and you can't see the screen again don't touch anything as the screen will revert back to the previous setting if you do not confirm.

Hope this helps. If it does don't forget to give me a thumbs up.

We have a samsung syncmaster p2050 monitor and a dell tower but the screen does not stay on to enable you do anything pls help to identify if its a monitor problem or a dell problem?

At a guess it's probably a monitor problem but the only way to be sure is to test the theory.

You need to beg, borrow or steel another monitor and connect it to your tower, if it works Ok, your monitor has the problem, if not, its your graphics card.

Or, if you can't borrow a monitor, ask if you can connect yours to a friends tower or even a laptop with a vga port on the back (blue 23 pins).

With the laptop, you should be able to switch between the laptop monitor and the ancillary monitor by pressing the "Fn" and another key (look amongst your "F" keys and your Number keys, there should be a picture of a screen). Don't forget to switch back by pressing the same keys again.

When playing "Farmville" there is a toggle switch to click on to enlarge your farm picture from the normal size. My monitor goes to complete "white out". Any suggestions?

Try changing your screen resolution in Windows. The "white out" condition is usually an indication that the image being sent is out of the range of the monitor.

When I hooked up my Kogi monitor to a computer running Windows Vista, the screen said "out of range" and I couldn't do anything with it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

out of range means you had the resolution to high

go to control panel and choose display to change this setting

I am using a samsung monitor 17" size which is of 3 yrs old .. it worked fine for sometime, but after 2 yrs.. , when i booted up the system its screen seems to be faded( not possible to see properly)....

Try changing the resolution to a lower one. Try 1024x768 or 800x600 and see if you can read the text then. If you can't then its probably a video card driver issue and you would need to reinstall the video card drivers for your computer.

I have no picture on my flat screen montior im using a older montior and its works

If the monitor light comes on but you get an "out of range" message, you'll have to start the computer in "VGA mode". Probably your video card is set to a resolution that the monitor won't display.
Just a thought, as you didn't say anything but you don't have a picture.
If this doesn't work, check the power and cord and video cable before you declare it dead.
