DVD Writer Model SH-S223 hangs when playing dvd.

the SH-S223 has the door problem ( when there is no DVD inside).... specially after using it for couple of months, cuz i had an internet cafe and i had the same problem over 8 DVDs from 10 .... so its a factory problem.... any way here how to solve the problem of your DVD door that does not open even when it has NO DVD inside.. ... to solve the problem... take off your DVD out from the case of your PC. take off the upper label on the top of the DVD u will find a rounded circle (cover) , open it just by making it move in a circular way. under it you will find a circled plastic that has a METAL in the middle remove the metalic thing . and through it away from your window. and put the rounded plastic back (Remember not to put it up side down), then close it as it was.. This optical drive is a Plug 'n Play device in Windows OS's. The only requirement is connection to a WORKING SATA controller. Check in Device Manager to insure the sata controller is working/enabled and you shouldn't have any problem. Windows will auto-detect / auto-install the drive without user intervention once this condition has been met.

Additionally, you will need 3rd. party recording and dvd decoding software in order to use all the functions this drive was built to perform, ie: play dvd movie disks and record to dvd and cd-rw disks. Windows is sorta limited on what all it will support.... that's the reason for the additional 3rd. party software like Nero or Roxio and PowerDVD or WinDVD.

The sh-s223 is a SATA interface, you must have the older IDE/PATA type drive interface, this needs the wider IDE ribbon cable for data and a 4 pin MOLEX power plug.
You have bought the wrong DVD burner
You have 2 options
Return the drive and buy an IDE model... OR
Buy a sata expansion card, these can be bought for under £10

before anything else.. your computer must not be plugged in
have some screw drivers ready

open the case
remove the connections of your old cd/dvd-rom
remove the screws
remove the drive from the bay

replace it with your new dvd writer
replace the connections and the screws
put everything else back
then turn on your system :D
