Samsung WriteMaster SH-W162c cannot read/write any disc

For a while I had some driver installed for my Samsung WriteMaster which enabled only reading CDs (and not burning).
Ever since I installed SH-W162c drivers I cannot read any disc. The DVD-RW drive does appear in My Computer, but when I open it it is always empty whether it contains a disc or not.

I really liked this DriverMax software, it really makes drivers updating a breeze!
I'm going to keep it although it didn't solve my DVD burner problem:

For some reason, my DVD driver doesn't appear under any category at DriverMax

The CD-rom driver might be corrupt or not compatible - here is a link for a free utility that finds outdated drivers and downloads the latest updates! http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/

It is strange that my samsung dvd writer is only reading cd's(ocassionally) and it does not reads any dvd's, what can i do?

sounds to me like you dvd burner is on its way out you could try putting in a new one and seeif that works

Dvd burner drawer keeps opening.

did you try to use it in other computer?it is a simple test ,just to make sure that it is ok.by any chance, is there anything that obstruct the tray or something like that?

Not install the drive icon

Just check the power cable is properly connected to the drive , check all the pins from motherboard end and from drive end , if all are found to be ok then change the cable, if after cahnging the cable the problem not solved then change the drive .

Samsung SHW08A DVD±RW doesn't burn dvd+r

Its because you need a firmware update. The media you are currently using isn't recognized. I stumbled in here with the same problem. I haven't been able to find an update, so I will probably have to try a different brand of disc myself. The burner worked fine until I tried using a new pack of Verbatim discs.

yes, you will need to remove and open the rom up and re align the door to gear.
