Computer will not play dvd or cd, but it does show
The computer has to be told to play the play the CD or DVD automatically if that is what you want. Go to the Control Panel, and find Hardware and Sound, look around for the DVD and CD settings, and change them to play automatically.

My dvd multi player rw
Robert Ashworth wants answers to this question
google how to BURN DVD-R? DISC.
that m522 is and old RELIC PRE 2001 YEAR, DRIVE, WITH NO SATA PORT, IDE (PATA) ONLY And will never work in any PC lacking PATA ports, 2001 and newer PCs. no way.
endless web sites cover this, (how to burn)
NO PC stated, nor OS but here is generic answer.
.(PC's AC power cable unplugged)
1: insert DVD m522 drive in to chassis., connect power cable and PATA Ribbon cable next
2: power on PC and see modern windows fail to see this device.
it is not supported this old. unless XP or Vista OS is used.
XP and VISTA have zero support now,. and XP is virus magnet.
3: then insert the DVD-R into the tray and close the tray.
label side UP.
4: then run Imgburn.exe (free program.
5: burn anything you want but will not burn stolen, or RIPPed movies.
you can say backup 1000s of office files in a directory folder full o f files to the DVD-R disk, it does a great job backing up files.

Samsung 22x Super Writemaster SH-S223F not reading any disc
im having the same problem with this drive and samsung has not helped at all. i cant even upgrade the firmware because the automatic upgrade program that upgrades the firmware comes up with a warning window right off the start, but the window is the wrong size for the text and you cant quite see the OK button or click on it to continue. just a reflection of samsung quality. nothing but garbage. to me samsung is just a big scam. once they have your money, thats it , 0 support. oh well you got me again samsung, my fault. ill just throw this drive on the pile of samsung.

Hi,
You must be excited in playing that high definition Blu-Ray disc you have. Regarding your concern, CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive unfortunately, cannot play this format. You need to have a Blu-Ray drive to play that thing.

try to run the Microsoft Fix it option to delete the upper and lower filters and if this does not work, update the firmware and try to use a lens cleaner. if nothing works including system restore, it might be time to get a new drive. hope this helps
