Hi, the problem you are having is due to it over heating so do the following.
1, unplug all leads
2, clean all the air vents.
3, make sure your ps3 is not being used on carpet or on top of anything like dvd or sky box.
then give it another try
if after doing the above it still dont solve the problem then the chances are you need some work doing to solve the problem.
its not a job you can do yourself as it requires reflowing of the gpu and cpu chip so you will need to shop around and see what price you can get.
i charge 25 pound plus parts for this repair so shop around and see what offer you can get

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Ps3 has purple lines going across the screen and coloring is greenish

The graphics generator isn't working properly. Perhaps you have a problem with the power supply; that could cause strange noises. I suspect one or more burned-out electrolytic capacitors. A good electrolytic capacitor has a flat-topped cylindrical case, but a bad one may have the top domed outward by excessive internal pressure.

badcap-zqp50lyr3oje4ziwbuipidcp-4-0.jpeg Electrolytic capacitors in the sizes typically used in low-voltage electronics are usually low-priced; most are under US $1. I recommend Panasonic FR series capacitors for high ripple current tolerance, long life and decent high frequency characteristics. You can use capacitors with a higher voltage rating and temperature rating, but not lower. The capacitance ("uF") must be the same. Make sure the physical size fits the board and isn't too tall to close the case. Never, never install the capacitor backwards (check the orientation of the stripe on the old one before removing, and compare with the mark that's usually printed on the board under the part). A backwards capacitor will be ruined rather quickly when power is turned on.

When i plug my hdmi cable to playstation and the tv, i get no signal! when i plug that 3 different colour cable. i get good graphics.. how to fix my hdmi input for Ps3

plug both cables into tv select the input on tv that has the three different color cable plugged into it use this connection to navigate the menu on ps3 go into display settings and choose the option for 1080 p or 1080 i and then choose the input method of hdmi after doing so your picture will go blank you must then select the input on the tv that has the hdmi plugged into it your screen should then show the picture you must do this quickly because you only have 30 seconds or so to save the new settings before it resets back to the old output settings. click your x button to save and you should be well on your way to better graphics using the hdmi on your ps3!!

Make sure you are using the correct cable. If you are using a HDTV make sure you are using a official HDMI cable. If you are using RGB/SCART, make sure you TV is compatible.

Lines covering over my games, game is working uder lines

Sounds like your GPU is about to go, What will probably happen soon is when you turn on your xbox you will get sound but no picture. Either send it in when it inevitably happens or try the x-clamp or hot air gun fix if out of warranty.

Graphics get squarish

Sounds like your GPU is cooked. The Graphics Processing Unit on the PS3 has started tohave issues with overheating. If your PS3 is still under warranty, go to http:www.us.playstation.com and go to the service link. There you will find the info you need to have your unitfixed. I have had to have mine serviced twice. From the day I sent it to them, it was less than ten days when they returned it. Be sure to take screenshots of the graphics problems you are having. If you do not, chances are all they will do is clean the unit, nd add cooling grease to the GPU and cell broadband engine This will help for a few days. But if the GPU is cooked, it will revert to the graphic "glitches" in a few days after service. Heat is the number one enemy of all electronics. Be sure and turn your PS3 off when not in use. Even if it is in "pause" mode, or just on the dashboard it is still causing wear and tear n the unit. Some games will still work fine with a bad GPU. But graphics intense games like Bad Company that run between 60-120fps cause alot of stress on the gpu. Good luck, and Happy Gaming!
