Having gone over a month without a response to my query, I assume the suggested hard reset solved the problem.
DUDE! You brought my TI-89 titanium back from the grave after 5 months!! I had even bought another one to replace the supposedly "broken" one. Where did you find this information? and also any ideas as to why it froze in the first place?
There's a lot of reasons the calculator can freeze up. A bad program, static discharge, whatever. As to where I found the information, I looked in the manual.
i can't seem to unfreeze mine with your directions though. which keys? which page of the manual?
Gary, I don't know what edition of the manual you have, but in my copy the "In Case of Difficulty" section of Appendix B begins on page 951.

May I assume the 2ND/left/right combination didn't work?
Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the (-) and ) keys as you replace the battery. Continue to hold the (-) and ) keys for five seconds before releasing.
Does that do anything?
