Hello,
When you turn the machine down, it rests where you left it, in the state you left it: In case you wanted to continue with the same program, what you have already accomplished will not be lost.

After you turn it on, Press [2nd][QUIT] or just press the [HOME] button, and it will take you home.

Hope it helps

Hello, my name is Lucas Matthews and I have a TI-89 that is frozen. The home screen is frozen and wont change. I have tried taking out the batteries and replacing them. Also, I have tried holding the ON...

There is a backup battery hidden under a cover in the battery compartment. Try removing all the batteries, including that one. Wait a little while, then put them back in. While you're waiting, apparently dust in the usb connector can cause problems. I don't know why, but it can't hurt to clean it out if it's dirty. If that fails, you can plug it into your computer, download the necessary software from the TI website, and reinstall the OS. If all that doesn't work, there might be a hardware problem.

My ti-89 screen is frozen and wont accept input

Remove the batteries and wait a minute or two. Put them back in and turn the calc back on and it should function normally. Check for stuck buttons as well, as sometimes they will cause the calc to appear "frozen".

My ti-89 calculator's screen is frozen

Having gone over a month without a response to my query, I assume the suggested hard reset solved the problem.

My TI-89 is frozen is there any way of resetting it or anything I can do? It isn't the batteries.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that doesn't do it, reset the calculator. Press and hold the lef-arrow, right-arrow, and 2ND keys, then press and release the ON key.

If that doesn't do it, remove one of the four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ) and (-) keys while replacing the battery. Continue to hold the two keys down for at least five seconds before releasing them.

Ti 89 detected but couldn't get status

Hello,
Here is what the FAQ and Knowledge Base area of the TI site has to say about the problem you are having. Hope it helps.

How do I correct the error message "TI-83 Plus or TI-89 detected, but could not get status" using the TI Connect software for Windows®?

The Operating System (OS) will need to be updated on the TI-83 Plus family or TI-89 calculator in order for the TI Connect software to detect the status. Try the following procedure to install the OS from the TI-83 Plus and TI-89 Boot Screen. Make sure TI Connect 1.6 is installed on the PC.

If using a TI-89 calculator:
• Connect the TI Connectivity cable to the TI-89 calculator and the computer.
• Do not start the TI Connect software.
• Download the TI-89 v2.09 OS onto the PC's desktop.
**Force the TI-89 into the "Boot screen" (see instructions below)**
• "Press I to install..." (press the [9] key).
• Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools >> TI Connect >> TI OSDownloader.
• Follow the on-screen directions to install OS version 2.09.
The download should begin.
**Steps for Boot Screen:**
• Take one AAA battery out, press and hold down the [APPS] key while reinserting the battery to force device into the Boot Code screen.
• "Press I to install..." will appear.
Once the OS has completed installation, the TI Connect software will be able to detect the TI-89.

Calculator won't turn off...

Other than internal workings I'd try to connect it to the computer using ti connect device explorer and see what I have there. If you have a lot of programs storied you might want to free up some memory too. be careful to delete unprotected memory first. you can try reseting and reinstalling just make sure you know exactly what the programs do (no games). I really need more info w/ what on the calculator first. But, I think your using to much memory.
