My ps3 won't read blu- ray games anymore - Video Game Consoles & Games

Hi, It sounds like there's an error with the laser that reads blu ray media as PS3 games and blu ray movies are both stored on blu ray disks which is read by a different type of laser then a dvd is read by. There's nothing you could do to fix that on your own, the only fix I've heard of is sending it in to Sony.

ok try doing a format and if that doesnt work then go get a new laser because games and blu ray take more power to work so the lens cant give that much anymore

Ok it sounds like your blu ray laser has become faulty. Unfortunately this is a very common problem for the PS3 and there is not much that can be done about it. New lasers can be bought but they are difficult to fix. You could buy a new drive from somewhere like ebay at a cost of around £60. They are much easier to fit than the lasers themselves but you must make sure you keep the circuit board on your blu ray drive and swap it to the replacement drive as this is paired to the motherboard and will not work if it is not with the original motherboard.

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play

If i was you i wouden update. the latest update sony have provided is causing alot of problems, such as not being able to read blue-ray movies and games. (3.00/3.01)

I know you dont see it this way, but i acaully see you as a very lucky person that you havent updated your machine yet, my ps3 dont work anymore after i updated, or it does work, but it just cant read any blueray games or movies.

But if you have a ps3 slim you probaly wont have this problem, its more older models that suffer under this bug. :(

i dont know what your current firmware is, but if its way below 2.80, then your still in the safe zone, cuz if you own a usb memory stick you can transfer the 2.80 update to ( USB-ROOT\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP ) and then unplug it from your computer and insert it into your ps3 and then try the update from local storeage.

DVD portion of your blu-ray drive went out. It's a three part laser (cd / dvd/ blu-ray).

The ONLY way you're gonna be able to fix it is by replacing the blu-ray laser or by getting your machine serviced by Sony.

The problem is all in the settings. You probably have a 1080i television that cannot display in 1080p. To fix this go to the main menu and go to:

Settings:

Video Settings

Then Blu Ray Disc and make it turn the Display BD in 1080p 24hz or whatever. Once you do that, start the Blu Ray Disc again, and you should be able to watch it. This all happened because your tv doesn't display 1080p.
