Hitachi 60SBX78B Blue Convergence Issue

The Blue Tube Convergence is off... and I cleared the RAM and tried to do a complete Convergence of the tubes but the blue tube will not align with the Green. How do I go about fixing the Blue Convergence. If I get the parts is it a DIY job?

Okay I did some research over the evening and that's what I came to aswell. That site didn't have a service manual for my model, also how do I know if the resistors are okay or not and which ones should I replace. How do I test a resistor. I was told resistors 50 - 59 are the ones which are possible affected.

    Thanks,

    Wally

You need new convergence ICs. its an easy repair. You can get replacement ICs at the link below and they provide free installation instructions with pictures as well as free tech support.

you have to unsolder 1 leg of the resistor out od circuit and check them for resistance. If they have no resistance they are open and need to be replaced. however on that model I would be surprised if any are open. usually hitachis blow the ICs without blowing the resistors, but its safe to check them anyway.

Hitachi 43FDX15B distorted picture. The top of screen displays a half circle cirle and the image is distorted within the half circle. The same at the bottom of the screen. The middle of the screen is fine....

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Blue dots on 50 inch hitachi projection tv

Your blue picture tube is brighter than the other tubes. Try to do a convergence on it. If that doesn't do it, it sounds like you blue picutre tube is getting ready to blow. It is the same principle like a light bulbs. You know how they get bright and in a next few days they blow. That stands true to a picture set.

Hatachi 60sbx78b 60 in. rear projection. Won't power up

set is in shutdown--some of these sets have problems with Glycol leaking out of one of the picture tubes---look and carefully check the first few inches from the front of the circuit boards--it will be a clear liquid or look like model airplane glue--it shorts things out--if you see the liquid do not touch it---it is like anti-freeze but much more concentrated and toxic---each picture tube has a sealed area full of the coolant--if it is Glycol---forget about it and get another set----this set is also prone to the High Voltage Transformer going bad---unsolder it and the Horz output transistor and see what happens.

good luck, Steve

Blue color tube damage

If you have had the set diagnosed by a technician, $500.00 for a picture tube repair and convergence alignment is not that bad.
Replacing the tube is most likely the best solution. Rebuilding a tube is something that can be done, but the tube has to be removed and sent off for rebuild, this can lead to a very lengthy repair.

I could not recommend that you replace the tube yourself.

If you are going to repair it yourself, there are some things to consider:
  1. The picture tubes are not as easy as some other components of a television, therefore they are not just a plug in affair.
  2. There is a high risk of electrical shock when dealing with picture tubes, as they will hold a charge like a capacitor. This charge is around 30,000 volts.
  3. The deflection yoke on the tube can be easily damaged during replacement.
  4. The focus and dynamic convergence can be difficult to do.
  5. If the set has scan velocity modulation, which I think this does. The SVM part of the tube has to be in the exact spot.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

No Color Blue

The symptom is not an indication of a convergence problem, straight forward the blue is missing, the pictute tube is not firing up or the color driver are not active and the blue color is not being processed, check the blue picture tube to see if is on sometimes you can see all three gunds from the side of the set.You should seek assistance from a professional to diagnose the problem.
