My whirlpool gu3600xt will not start

My gu3600xt has power...the lights work, but it will not start. The display panel simply has two dashes, as if the unit was not shut properly (even though it is). When I press the start button there is no response from the dishwasher

I shut off the power at the plug and at the breaker to see if that would solve it, but it didn't.

This has been a problem in the past, the dishwasher doesn't work for a few days, and then one day it decides to run the cycle after I press start.

Help...

I have a Whirlpool dishwasher - model GU3600XTSY1. It won't start a wash cycle any more...it just has two dashes in the display and does not respond when I hit start (it isn't locked either). This was a problem a few weeks ago and I turned the breaker off for a day and then it decided to work again after a day or two. This week, the problem surfaced again, so I reset the control panel (heat dry, normal wash, heat dry, normal wash) and it ran a short rinse cycle and then let me run a normal wash cycle. However, the next time I tried to run it, it failed to respond again. I tried the control reset and turned the power off, but it just did the short rinse after the reset and didn't let me run a normal wash afterwards.

What do you think is the problem? the first fixya expert said it might be a sensor problem...do you think it's a sensor problem...if so how much might it be to repair? Is there any self fix that you'd suggest before I call the repair guy?

    Thanks,
    Ted

Hi,

The symptoms you are having could be sensor related but I think you are experiencing something more. Since the unit does not start at times I think we should look first at the door latch and door switches.

If the door closes but the latch is worn it may not be electrically 'making' the door interlock switch, this could cause the machine to not start.

One quick test for this would be if you do get it started pull slightly on the door without opening it, see if it turns off, or push on the door while trying to start it. Taking the console off to test the door latch is pretty easy. Take the screws off from the inner door panel around the top and the console will come down.

The other reason I think it is the door latch is the fact that doing the key dance with Heated Dry - Normal...... resets the control, the only reason the control would lock out is for a heating failure, the door switch is part of the heating circuit on your model.

This sounds like a sensor or an intermittent problem.

  • Anonymous Jun 03, 2010

A sensor or intermittent problem? It definitely is intermittent, as it happened a few weeks ago and I turned off the power at the breaker for a while and then a day or two later it decided to work again. this time, though, shutting the power off didn't work. I also reset the display (pressing heat dry, normal wash, heat dry, normal wash), after which it went into some short rinse-type mode for about 15 minutes. The first time I did this, I was able to run the dishwasher on a regular cycle afterwards. Then the next time I tried to run it, I got the same problem with it failing to start and the two dashes in the display...and now doing the control re-set doesn't do anything except run the short rinse (it doesn't let me run a regular cycle afterwards. Also, after it did the short rinse, it smelled kind of hot inside the dishwasher.

Do you have any other suggestions, other than it might be the sensor? Is there anything else I could try (I didn't see anything on the links that you sent me)? How much do you think it would cost to replace the sensor (parts and labor) - ballpark figure?

    Thanks for your help,

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW5800BW won't start any cycle, the dash lights all turn off and time remaining skips to 10 mins and nothing happens

I would take back panel off the console and make sure any wires or the pressure hose hasn’t pulled loose. Unplug it first.

Related: F2 E6 on Whirlpool RBD305PDS14 double oven - blank display

Equipment is Whirlpool double oven RBD305PDS14 built-in.  After a very stormy summer 2007, I thought a power surge may have zapped the control board.  Problem initially presented on display as error & fault "E6 F2"; simply pressing "Timer Off" would usually clear this error & fault code.

However, some months later, the display would often go completely blank followed by the beep sequence "short-long-short-short-short" (Morse code: dit dah dit dit dit).  No error & fault code would appear.  Pressing any keypad oven control did not work at all in this condition.  When power was cycled at the breaker panel, the usual "PF" with clock display did not appear.

[TURN OVEN POWER OFF AT BREAKER!!!]

After following the excellent information on "how to remove the control panel" posted in this forum, I first tested the "control panel thermal fuse" (refer to the tech sheet that should be behind the control panel once it is removed).  It showed a closed circuit.

I turned my attention to the "flexible" keypad connector cable (error & fault code "E6 F2" is a keypad or keypad connector problem; again, refer to tech sheet).  The control panel has a board mounted female connector with two tabs that may be gently pulled upward to release the flexible cable.

I cleaned the flexible cable contact area (it seats into the board mounted female connector) carefully with a Q tip and some isopropyl alcohol.  I reinserted the flexible cable and gently pressed down on the two tabs (noted above) on the board mounted female connector.  VERY GENTLY tug on the flexible cable to insure it is gripped by the connector.

After all of this monkey business, I re-mounted the control panel display panel on the oven and restored power.  So far, so good.  After applying power, the "PF" with clock display always appears.  I am able to set the clock and press "Start".  Over functions normally.  The clock displays as normal and I no longer observe the problem I described above.

BTW, I noted the incoming 240V has transient suppression (no surge protection, however).

I have a whirlpool gold fridge and its flashing the po code why and how do I make it stop

PO stands for Power Outage. The fridge lost power for some reason. On my fridge I just hit "acknowledge" and it goes away. I don't own a whirlpool. Here's a page that lists different instructions for multiple different fridges in order to reset everything and turn off the PO light. http://removeandreplace.com/2016/02/02/refrigerator-display-panel-is-blank-not-working-how-to-reset/

2006 trailblazer factory installed DVD has sound but no screen. The screen intermittently comes on, it stays on once it works but if we turn the vehicle off, we get the intermittent behavior. Has an

the factory dvd decks are designed to disable the dash display when the car is running, to negate distracted driving. the factory wires the rear seat dvd displays only to work when car is running, and the dash to work only when the car is either acc, or, possibly, in park.

if the dash is intermittent, and, especially, if the dash display has some dvd video while running(or, more dangerously, when in drive) then a previous owner likely tried to bypass this safety feature by crossing wires under the dash, and did a poor job.

otherwise, lcd screens can become intermittent, in regards to powering on or off, if the backlighting regulating circuits start to fail. this would be an issue with the deck itself, and is merely due to old age (nearly 8 years)

. the hallmark of this problem would be if you were to hold a flashlight to the screen, and see a faint display,- simply lacking the florescent back-lighting.

I have a Whirlpool ADP9000ix diswasher that will not power the front display/touch panel. Therefore cannot turn the dishwasher on. I have checked the circuit control panel. And power is getting to it....

If your Whirlpools over there are like the older ones here in the U.S., you may find that there is a thermal fuse mounted just above the circuit board. If there is one, turn off the power to the unit, pull off the 2 wires connected to it and check it for continuity with a multimeter. If that fuse is blown, nothing works as it controls all power to the unit. Replacement fuse kits (at least here in the U.S.) are readily available on ebay for a fraction of the price that an appliance parts store would want. By looking on ebay for "Whirlpool dishwasher fuse" you can see what the fuse assembly looks like, and if identical to yours, purchase one. If you do buy one, follow the installation instructions exactly by using the supplied wires on the new fuse and the screw terminal block to make the connections. If you don't use the new wiring and connection block and simply plug the new fuse to the old connectors, it will simply blow again in a short time.

Hi, Whirlpool Quiet Partner IV GU3600XTSB2 Keypad

HI. lets get right to the point here. This disruption will be the direct result of a failed main PCB(Control Board). You have done great work to isolate this damage that is located at the PCB. The key pad seems to be functioning correctly. In fact, the blinking lights are a strong indication of main logic failure at the central control unit or PCB. Due to this fact, the main board will need to be replaced, asap. This will correct your issues at hand and restore the units proper functional state. I will provide a link to the service manual for your particular unit below. Simply click that link to view and download the manual for safe keeping. The manual will guide you through the installation process for the main control board replacement procedure. i will assist as well, if needed. There will be wiring diagrams also in this manual that will guide you through the ribbon connection process so that you my connect all wiring properly, as well.

There are also more extensive troubleshooting charts embedded within the service manual that will allow for a more in-depth troubleshooting method that will fortify my solution, as well. The link for the manual is as stated below:

GU3600XT Series Universal Service Manual

This download is quite large, due to the size of the manual. I suggest to print it out for safekeeping. It covers all GU3600XT series models, including SB2, as well.

Thank you for purchasing the service and i will be on stand by for further discussion, as needed,

The buttons on my Whirlpool dishwasher have gone haywire and have a mind of their own. I can't push a button to start the dishwasher

Hi!!
Try disconnecting the power cord for 5 min. to see if the unit will reset itself. If that does not work, disconnect the power cord and remove the inside panel behind the control board to check the circuit board for burnt marks or smell. If found defective, click on the following link to ID and order the correct part. http://www.repairclinic.com/Circuit-Board-Or-Timer-Parts?s=t-GU3600XTS-%3d%3dec13
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.
