I have a frigidaire upright freezer.. it keeps things frozen for a while then freezes up and starts runnin warm.. i mean, it's still cold (30-40 degrees). i have noticed frost accumulating on the back wall where the coils are.. is this a defrost problem? it seems to work fine if i turn the temp to 0 and let the ice melt.. then it'll work for like 12 hrs and freeze up again..
do you have any advice on how to fix it.. or a safe way to bypass the fact that it doesn't defrost on its own?do you have any advice on how to fix it.. or a safe way to bypass the fact that it doesn't defrost on its own?

Leave it plugged in. It won't over freeze. If the outside air is cold then it won't need to run as much to bring down the temp-nature is doing that. So when the weather gets warm it will run to keep everything frozen. Hope this helps. Google burdfrenzy
Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...
Sounds like frost bulidup from door being left open warm air gets in making frost and ice. Need to turn off for 24hrs or so to let all the ice melt compleatey then turn back on keep door closed run for 24hrs check Temp. shoud be about 0 to -5 Deg. if good start using.
THE RED WARNING LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND I HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING THE FAST FREEZE BUTTON, THIS IS EVERY FEW DAYS. IF I DONT NOTICE ALL THE FOOD DEFROSTS!
If every coil , from the bottom one to the top one, are frozen, either the door is not closing right or the defrost timer is bad , but if half or less part of the coil is frozen , that means the unit is low in refrigerant and the leak has to be repair ( this is a seal system ) and after that recharge the system.
Will it freeze water? The vent coming into the freezer may be blocked. Check that and see. Is the refrigerator keeping those items cool? You may also have a vent blocked by the fan cover (dusty). If all this is right, you may have a freon leak or worse a compressor or evaporator going bad.
do you have any advice on how to fix it.. or a safe way to bypass the fact that it doesn't defrost on its own?
Sounds like its low on its refrigerant charge
