Try to clean using the printer software first. (I assumed you installed the Lexmark printer software)
- Load paper,
- From start > Programs >Lexmark.. Lexmark Solution Center
- From Maintenance tab, click Clean to fix horizantal streaks.
- Click Print ( Do it a few times if it doesn't print good)
Then you can clean wiping the print cartridge nozzles and contacts. To do that please see the picture below:

Please do the following cleaning by its software a few times if it doesn't print until the nozzles cleaned.
- From start > Programs >Lexmark.. Lexmark Solution Center
- From Maintenance tab, click Clean to fix horizantal streaks.
- Click Print
After replacing ink cartridges you also need to align the print cartridge before printing.
To do that:
- Open lexmark solution center (From software menu)
- From maintenance tab, click Align to fix blurry edges.
- Follow the instructions on the computer screen.

The manual contains all the information you required.
Like "Clean to fix Horizontal streaks" in the maintenance tab.
If you want to physically clean the print heads, you need to pull out the cartridge with the power on.(Please be very careful) not to disturb the print head assembly alignment. Once it is out, you need to clean it with some spirit or alcohol. Clean it and re install it. Hope you'll be out of trouble.

Please do make sure that you haven't disturb the print assembly. Because in most of cases, it gets disturbed with a very light impact. Moreover try to print some test pages. Sometimes it takes time to print normally once it gets cleaned.
Do provide me with the error message if any. You can also consult the given manual for any type of queries. It got ample amount of information within it.

Dear Sir,
I own a Lexmark X1180 printer.When I print from it there is a white line running through the printing and I believe the ink jets on the printer are blocked up.How do I CLEAN the printer jets please?
I have cleaned the printer as suggested but now I cannot get it to print at all
I cleaned the printer cartridge as suggested then found that my printer would no longer print. I have therefore disposed of my printer and bought another one. Thanks anyway
