I'd try to change the USB port where the receiver is connected. If this "new" port was not used yet, the windows will (re)install the drivers to make the device works in the USB port. If this doesnt work, provide us more detais (model of keyboard, e.g.)
Make sure the batteries are good and then follow these instructions.

Then if the Keyboard isn't working, press the small RESET/CONNECT
button on the back of the board to connect the keyboard to the
receiver.
If the MOUSE isn’t working, push the small RESET/CONNECT button
on the back of the mouse to connect to the receiver. Then they
should work okay.

The receiver is plugged into a USB port and doesn't use batteries. The keyboard and mouse use batteries and they need to be replaced ever so ofter. to do so, follow thes instructions.

Are your batteries in the Keyboard and mouse good?

After starting up the computer with the wireless receiver, keyboard and mouse attached,, (with good batteries in both) install the CD software program and thenif it doesn't work follow these instructions:

Make sure that your Keyboard and mouse receiver is plugged into the USB port before starting up you computer. Then using the CD software program that came with the keyboard and mouse, install it. After installation is complete and the keyboard or mouse doesn't work. Try the following.

Did you put batteries in both units before connecting the Receiver to a USB port? Then did you use the CD software program that came with the keyboard and mouse and install the program? After doing the install the following info will help to make them operational.
