When I scan there is a multicolor section on 1/3 of the right side. I read wehre I could take the scanner apart and clean the mirrors and lense. I did so and it still did not help.
There was a yellow area along one-third of the image, now increasing to a red to yellow cast to the entire document.

I have had my CanoScan 8400F for a few years now and I have really enjoyed it. Lately, however, large vertical bands of erroneous color have begun to appear on scanned images. It's not always the same color but typically pink or cyan.I have had my CanoScan 8400F for a few years now and I have really enjoyed it. You're not going to get that kind of output suddenly from dirty mirrors that are encased and not really exposed to outside elements. There is most likely something malfunctioning with the scanner.

You can change the scanner setting and increase image resolution before scanning, after that your image will get clear. Download the mention below manual & read the software section para.
after reading the manual, http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/2400/ug_en.pdf, yes it is possible - not that it tells you how to do it though so read on. Until you become familiar with the process just use one sheet of paper at a time in the printer. As you know, in the scanner the top right of your document goes to the right hand front corner of the scan bed (the clear window), place the page on the scanner and scan. Pick up the printed sheet of paper and flip it so the left hand side edge is now in your right hand and the right hand edge is now in your left hand and you are now looking at the blank side of the paper. Insert the page back into the sheetfeeder. Flip the page to copy in the scanner so the rearmost edge of the paper is now to the front of the scan bed and the front edge of the paper is now towards the rear (you should now be looking at the page you scanned previously). Scan the page. you should have now scanned both sides of one sheet of paper to another sheet of paper. as your printer does not have a sheet feeder for the scanner you have to do the process manually. hope this helps.
1. does scanning from the pc looks good ? 2. printing photos from the pc looks good ? 3. does standalone copy (placing image on the scanner bed then pressing the COPY button on the printer) looks good ?
This has something to do the brightness chosen. In the manual mode, if you choose a dark output, the output will have tis area also; if you choose, lighter output, it will omit. In the auto scan mode, the scanner decides what is the best output.
the only thing that comes to mind is maybe the cable is partially crimped and as the scanner moves the wires dont touch. otherwise, its possible there is an issue with a main board.
