My husband's E-Machine T2882 began to make jittery noises, the light on the front flashes as does the monitor with a ticking sounds, then nothing happens. You can't get it to turn on. We've rebooted, shut down our U-Verse connection, and for a second it was fine and started to boot up Windows. Then, went black and started with the flashing, ticking light. He's taken it apart and cleaning the fan and insides. Could this be the motherboard or an issue with the fan? Help. This ****** is 7 yrs old and probably needs replacing!

Computers are supposed to be kept clean on the inside, TO include the Power Supply, on a regular basis. Unplug the computer from power, open the computer case, and use a can of compressed air for computers, in the inside of the computer, as well as the inside of the power supply. Attach the plastic straw, shoot air through the ventilation holes of the power supply, and clean the fan . Use care as the straw can become disconnected from the nozzle of the can of air, and shoot off inside the power supply! eMachines are a budget computer. As such they use cheap quality power supply's. Having a lot of dust, and dirt inside a computer ( And power supply) is detrimental to the longevity of these cheap power supply's. Suggest you test the power supply voltages to see if they are correct. You may have a weak voltage power rail in the power supply. There are three ways to test the power supply. 1) Use a known to be good power supply with the proper amount of Wattage, proper power cables (And enough of them), and substitute it for the one presently in the computer. 2) Use a multimeter, and check the voltages on the power wires. Orange is 3.3 Volts. Red is 5 Volts. Yellow is 12 Volts. ALL Black wires are a Ground wire. ( Positive lead {Red} goes to a power wire. Negative lead {Black} goes to ANY Ground wire. Multimeter is set to the DC 0 to 50 Volt scale. 3) Use a power supply tester. The tester price averages around $15, so does an economical multimeter from a place like an auto parts store.http://www.directron.com/ps228.html When a power supply's cooling system is clogged, the cooling capacity drops tremendously. Heat = Wasted Energy The power supply tries to keep up with the demand for power, but eventually components inside the power supply fail. I find that the Electrolytic Capacitors are the first to fail, or are failing. This causes a weak voltage power rail inside the power supply. NOTE* The human body carries Static electricity. Static will fry out computer hardware components. (Short Circuit) When working on the inside of a computer always observe anti-static precautions. Either wear an ESD wrist strap, and have the alligator clip attached to the metal frame of the computer case (About $6), Or TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case before reaching inside. If you get up, and walk away in the middle, upon your return, Touch the metal frame again. NEVER work on a computer plugged into power. The shock hazard to humans is one factor, but the voltage spike issue is a greater one to the computer components.

It sounds as if the CPU fan may be stalling out. This will cause the CPU to overheat and the computer will shut off. You can check this by turning on the computer while the case is open to see if the fan is spinning. Becarefull for static discharge from your fingers when touching parts on the inside of the case, because you can short them out. Be sure to ground yourself ahead of time.

First look for the upgrade of the hardware's inside. like memory and processor. second if that machine is 7 yrs old, please do replace it. coz i believe the hardware's for that is now expensive.

Dell monitor blank. nothing appears on screen. light is blinking by minitor power button, but nothing at all on screen. I hooked up to my laptop, still nothing. Checked power/ tried new power cable. No...

Make sure you set up your laptop to display to a second screen. Depending on your Operating system, go to your display properties and go to the settings tab. Then click on the second monitor and enable it.

Ticking under the hood.

I kind of had the same problem with my car, the dealer kept saying it was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that the ticking noise would fix itself electronically. Wrong, it was my valves needed adjustment and that ticking noise was never going to be fixed electronically.
